I shouted as I jumped out of the water, shifting in midair, and jumped him. Pierce managed to shift just as our bodies connected, two wolves rolling in the grass, snarling and clawing at each other. We backed away from each other, teeth bared ready to fight. I took the initiative once again, charging full speed ahead towards him. All rational things vacated from my mind. All I could think about was how badly I wanted to kill him. How badly I wanted to make him suffer for everything he did. For all the people he attacked. For daring to force his way into my life where he wasn't wanted.

Pierce moved away from my claws, taking the momentum to grab my tail with his teeth, and dragged me around like a ragdoll. I just got back to all fours when he tackled me with full force, knocking us both into the water. That didn't stop us. I shoved him back with my hind legs before pouncing on top of him and submerging us both underwater. We sloshed around trying to go for each other's jugular so we could end this, but Pierce was as skilled as one would expect for an alpha. After wrestling underwater for a few seconds, Pierce shoved me off him and bolted out of the water.

"Enough," Pierce growled after shifting back into his human skin. At least I got the satisfaction in knowing I made him bleed in several places.

Pulling myself out of the water, I shifted back as well. I used both hands to push my hair away from my face. "What the hell is going on, Pierce? Why are you here?"

"Heh, well as fun as it is to tussle with you, I did have some things I'd like to discuss with you."

"We have nothing to discuss. Give me one good reason why I should listen to you, instead of killing you here and now."

"Because I have information about the New Moon's Curse, and about my new business partner that I'm sure you've heard about," Pierce responded with a smirk.

Wow, that was a good answer. "Your new business partner meaning Mordred."

Pierce nodded.

"Why would you tell me anything about him?"

"Don't get the wrong idea, Rosie. I may be working with him, but we both have different goals in mind." Pierce crossed his arms. "Now, do you want to hear what I have to say, or do you want to risk knowing nothing about what awaits you?"

Pierce was serious about giving me intel that would help. That didn't seem right. Was this a trap to give us false information? It was possible, but what would that do? Giving us fake information was no different than giving us nothing, unless he was psychologically messing with us. No, Pierce was a lot of things, but he wasn't that crazy.

"I can see the gears turning in your head," Pierce said, watching me intently.

"I'm still trying to figure out why you would say anything to us. What is his goal that makes it different from yours? And wouldn't telling us about him be some form of betrayal?"

"When our final battle comes, you plan to kill me, right?"

I nodded, wondering why that had anything to do with him betraying Mordred.

"If I die, then I want you to make sure that nobody else gets the Wolf Moon's gift. That includes Mordred."

"Why?"

Pierce began pacing back and forth as he talked. "You know what my goal has been, yes? Why I wanted the Wolf Moon's gift."

"To be the strongest wolf alive. To lead the strongest wolf pack. To have nobody stand against you."

"Correct. With Mordred, he too wants power, but he wants all the full moon’s gifts. He wants world domination." Pierce stopped mid pace to face me. "It's men like him that made me want to be the strongest in the first place. To stand up to men like him who wants the world to bow at his feet."

"A big bad villain who wants to rule the world. How cliché." I rolled my eyes. "Why work with him then, if you don't like him?"

"Mordred has power, and the means to help me get what I want." Pierce made it sound simple, but it didn't match with everything else he said. About Mordred wanting all the full moon’s gifts for himself.

"Do you really think Mordred will let you have the Wolf Moon's gift if he wants it too?"

"That's precisely the point. Even you're smart enough to know that Mordred would eventually double cross me so he could take the power for himself. Me giving you a handicap helps to even the odds. If I get the Wolf Moon's gift from you, then I would use it to kill him myself. But in the off chance I die, I hope you'd be smart enough, and strong enough, to make sure he doesn't get his hands on it either."

This was a lot to wrap my head around, and I honestly didn't know if I was getting the logic behind it. The first thing that sprung to mind was that old saying, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So, they were essentially enemies working together to get rid of a common threat, namely me, and then will turn on each other when the deed was done?

Why do men always have to complicate things?

"Okay, I'm listening," I said in resignation. I hated him, and I wanted nothing more than to see his blood spill, but if he was willing to give us any clues on how to beat Mordred, then it was something worth listening to. "So, what do I need to know?"

"His pack of rogues are being fueled by the New Moon's Curse. Think of it like a super serum. They'll be stronger, faster, and smarter than the average wolf shifter. They'll be under his command. That's not all. While you guys have been here training, Mordred has been sneaking into other packs to brainwash wolf shifters with a lot of potential to join his army."

My mouth hung open slightly as terror wormed its way up my body. It was like in the legends. The New Moon's Curse forcing Selene's pack to fight against them. Mordred seemed to be taking it up a notch by forcing shifters from other packs to fight us. I hadn't even heard about strange events happening in other packs. I gasped as I thought of the Blue Moon Pack.
