"He'll be fine," Joaquin assured me, his hands gripping my shoulders. "Byron won't lose this."

"I hope you're right." I gulped, reaching out for Kao's hand. He took it, bringing it to his lips to place a kiss.

Virgil and Byron moved to opposite sides before getting into fighting stands. When the match began, both men slowly moved closer to one another. Byron held his fists up over his face like a boxer. When Virgil swung with his left fist, Byron blocked it with his arm, then jabbed two times at his gut. Virgil took two steps back but was back on the attack. Byron leaned back to avoid another swing from Virgil, then ducked under another one and rolled over to the opposite side of the ring. The crowd was eating it up, watching Virgil struggle to get a single hit in. Virgil went in for a kick to the head like he did with his last opponent, but Byron turned and grabbed his leg before it made contact. He pulled on his leg, forcing Virgil to fall on his side.

"He's figured it out," Joaquin said close to my ear so I could hear him.

"Figured what out?" I asked.

"Virgil's fighting style." Joaquin squeezed my shoulders slightly. "He's seen Virgil fight in four other matches, so Byron knows how he moves. Plus, after all those fights, Virgil had to have been running out of steam."

"He's fighting with his brain," Rowan said behind me. "He's maneuvering around his opponent, using what he learned from observing his other fights and incorporating it into his movements. He's wearing Virgil down further and waiting for an opening to strike."

"This is the reason why Byron's been the beta's trainer," Kao said. "His skill and precision for combat is unmatched by anyone else in Kingsrose."

"He is quick on his feet, I'll give him that," Del praised.

I watched the match continue with newfound appreciation for Byron's fighting skills. He reflexes had him avoiding every blow Virgil tried throwing at him. It was to the point that he was starting to get frustrated and reckless. "Hold still and let me hit you, damn it!" Virgil shouted, going for a more sluggish punch at Byron. Instead of dodging it like he'd been doing, Byron gripped his arm and flipped Virgil on his back. Twisting his raised arm, he forced Virgil to roll onto his stomach, then pressed a booted foot on his back, pinning him down.

"Do you yield?" Byron asked, twisting Virgil's arm more.

Virgil cried out before eventually saying, "Okay, Okay, I yield!"

"We have a new champion!" someone in the crowd announced, and then everyone roared with applause. I myself was jumping and cheering, glad that my man won. Byron got off Virgil and helped the man up. Virgil winced as he rolled his sore arm, but he and Byron exchanged a bro hug and congratulated him on winning. I pushed my way through the crowd to get to Byron. When I did, Byron saw me and lifted me off my feet with a hug.

"Byron, baby, you were incredible!" I yelled in delight.

"It was a good match," Byron said, setting me back on my feet before taking my mouth with his. There were a lot of whoops and hollers, but I ignored them all as I melted myself into the embrace of my newest mate. "So, what did you think?" he asked when we pulled back for air.

I waggled my brows at him. "I think it was sexy watching you move around the ring like that."

Byron's hands fell to my hips as a growl rumbled in the back of his throat. "Mmmm, is that so?"

"Uh huh. It's too bad we're not alone right now, so I could show you exactly how sexy I thought it was."

At my words, Byron's body pressed against mine, the obvious bulge in his pants grinding against my core which had me shivering with pleasure. Whispering in my ear, he asked, "Then should I take you upstairs?"

I was about to tell him yes, and have Joaquin and Kao follow us, but when I looked in the direction of the lodge, I saw Roxanne and Morgan standing on the porch. Morgan carrying a black gym back beside her. My guess was they were ready to prepare the spell.

I patted Byron's shoulder to get him to let me go. "We'll have to take a rain check. It looks like Roxanne is ready."

When Byron looked back and saw the girls, he released his hold on my hips. I'd make sure we had at least one more session of hot sex before the big day tomorrow. I stepped back and spoke loud enough for the crowd to hear me. "All right, everyone, clear out. Make some room for the witches to do their work!"

Right away, the crowd dispensed, giving the center of the field to the girls to prepare their own circle. Roxanne nodded her thanks while I walked to the side where my friends and mates were at. We watched as Morgan unzipped the bag, and the two of them began pulling out candles. They placed them on the ground, forming a circle that was about as big as the one the crowd made for the challenges. I counted at least thirty candles by the time their circle was made, and Del stood in the center with a glass vial in her hand.

"You think this will really work?" Kao asked.

I shrugged, unsure if it would but I trust that Roxanne knew what she was doing. With a wave of her hand, all the candles surrounding Roxanne lit up. Morgan stepped away and walked over to watch with us.

"What is that thing she has?" I asked Morgan, pointing to the vial with the strange bluish-purple liquid inside.

"We call it Merlin's Tears," Morgan explained. "It's a very dangerous drug that pushes past the body's limitations of magic. Roxanne will be able to amplify her mind magic, but it'll completely drain her, and may do some internal damage to the body."

"What? Roxanne never told us about the internal injuries. Is she going to be okay?"

"That's why I'm here," Morgan said. "My healing magic is the sharpest of my coven. I'll be able to help her if she sustains damage."

"But why would she put herself in harm's way like this?" Kao asked, his worry for the witch was as bad as mine. I almost wanted to stop her as she pulled the cork out of the vial and began drinking it. Her face scrunched up like Merlin's Tears had a sour taste to it. Her body was soon enveloped in a pink haze as she levitated off the ground, then sat cross-legged in midair, her eyes closing shut as she concentrated on her spell. Right away, I could see pink transparent wisps of magic slithering out of her body and traveled down the long path leading to Kingsrose.
