“I think what I said was handsome,” I growl, my cheeks turning bright red.

“Splitting hairs. What’s your name, princess?”

“Well, it’s certainly not princess,” I growl, standing as tall as I can. I’m still dwarfed by him though. He’s got to be at least six foot three. He towers over my five foot two inches.

He holds out a tanned, long-fingered hand which fascinates me for some reason. A blush stains my cheeks again. “Steele. Steele McConnell. And you are?”

“In a hurry. I’m late for my flight.”

“I’ll make you a deal. Give me your name and I’ll let you have the cab. I’ll take the next one.”

I chew on my bottom lip and flush dark red when I see a spark of something dark in his brown eyes. I know I shouldn’t tell him my name. He could be a stalker or a crazy person. But I really need this cab.

“It’s Cleo. Cleo Reynolds.”

He steps back and holds the door open for me, helping me pick up my suitcase and phone. “It’s very nice to meet you, Cleo. I feel like we’ll be meeting again soon.”

I sniff and smirk. “I don’t see how that’s possible. You don’t even know where I’m going.”

He grins, a mischievous light dancing in his dark as midnight eyes. “The universe is a mysterious thing, Cleo. She has her ways.”

And then he closes the door and I sit back, my mouth hanging open. What the hell did he mean by that? The universe?

I turn and watch his big, muscular body slip away as the cab enters traffic leaving the restaurant I was getting a last lunch at. His dark hair rustles in the breeze and there’s a light in his eyes that makes me shiver all the way down to my toes.

I almost wish that the universe would get us together again because I’ve never felt the way he makes me feel. Hopeful and excited. Like Christmas morning waiting to open your presents.

“I know I asked the universe for the man of my dreams but surely she wouldn’t drop him in my lap just to separate us forever,” I sigh.

“What was that?” the cabbie asks, his brow wrinkling.

“Oh nothing. I’m sorry. I’m just talking to myself.”

“Sure,” he says and then he turns to the front again, obviously convinced I’m completely out of my mind.

Maybe I am. Because I wonder if I should turn the car around and go back and find Steele.

And that has to be the craziest thing I’ve ever thought. The man doesn’t even live where I do. He’s not Mr. Right.

No matter how much I wish he was.

CHAPTER2

Steele

Iwatch the cab pull away with the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen sitting in the back of it. Her head turns towards me one last time and I swear I can almost see her dark jade eyes staring back at me.

I can also still hear her conversation with her friend ringing in my ears.

“She’s looking for Mr. Right. Well, I think she’s just found him. Because I sure as hell know that I’ve found my perfect woman.” What was that she was saying though?

She’d go out with the first guy that asked basically. Well, that isn’t going to work for me. Unless it’s me.

I pick up my phone and dial Jameson’s number. “Hey, man. Remember when I did that favor for you last year? Yeah? Well, I need one now. I need to borrow your plane and pilot. Yeah, I know it’s short notice but I found her.”

“Found who?” My friend grumbles as I shoot a hand out and scrabble at the door of the cab that almost drives across my toes.

“Jesus,” I grumble and throw myself in the back seat. “Airport. Now,” I growl, sitting back in the seat and running a hand through my hair.
