Running in the door, I sprint for the gates, growling when I realize I have to go through security.

“Dammit!” I grumble under my breath, yanking my shoes off and throwing everything in my pockets into a tray for the very uninterested worker.

It seems to take forever but I’m finally through the line and instead of looking for my gate, I dash through and look for hers. I know it’s hopeless. The teeming masses of bodies block my view everywhere I look. Shifting seas of people dart in and out of my vision until I can barely think. It’s so damn crowded.

But I have to hope. I know she’s here and I have to hope that she’s not on her way yet.

A flash of perfect blonde catches my eye. Long, tousled golden curls cascading down a back that’s built for my hands. An ass that’s made for me to hold onto and caress. Maybe spank.

She turns and I see her smiling at someone who’s walking beside her. A growl rumbles from my lips.

“Who thefuckis that?”

I dart behind a pillar across from the gate. Just in time to see the person she was smiling at walk away.

She sits down in the waiting area and pulls a magazine from her gigantic purse. Even from here I can see it’s fully stocked for her flight.

“My girl likes to be prepared. I like that.”

I like it all. My girl. That’s what she is.

I glance up at the sign on the gate. Ridge City. I’m not sure where that is but if that’s where she’s from? I might be moving. Permanently.

CHAPTER3

Cleo

Isigh as I open the door to my bookstore, Cleo’s Corner. My lips involuntarily curve up in a satisfied smile. I might be exhausted but my little slice of heaven always makes me feel better.

I glance around and don’t see anything out of place. Aurora apparently handled everything without a hitch in my absence. I hated taking the time to go visit my friends but only because I didn’t like relying on anyone else to take care of my baby.

It’s late though and I can always handle the rest of this in the morning.

I turn and then gasp, jumping back as a dark shadow falls across the glass in the door.

“Dammit!” I growl, my hand at my throat. I didn’t lock the door.

Stealthily, I creep towards the door, my shaking hand reaching out to click the lock. Before I can though, it’s shoved open and I find myself falling backwards onto the floor.

Squeezing my eyes shut, I brace for the pain. “Oof!”

A hard, warm object stops my fall.

“What the…” My eyes open and I look up and up into the darkest eyes I’ve ever seen. Familiar, laughing eyes.

“You!” I growl and wriggle in his arms, feeling his bulging arms tighten around me.

“Such a nice welcome, Cleo!” he laughs and the husky warmth of it slides along my skin like golden, sweet honey.

Shoving at his chest, I resist the urge to massage my fingers into his hard pecs like a kitten kneading its bed.

When he doesn’t let go, I still and glare at him, my hair falling wildly into my eyes until I huff it out of my face.

“Do you mind?” I grit out between clenched teeth.

A cocky smirk tilts his soft, sexy lips and I feel my belly clench. “I don’t mind at all.”

“Mr. McConnell. You need to let go of me.”
