"I don't want any of this. I just want a normal life." I reached for my backpack. “And I have the box you’ve been looking for.”

He tutted. "That can all wait. I know you've been told many things about me. Some of them are true. Many of them are not. I think I deserve a chance to show you who I am."

"And if I don't like what you show me?"

He shrugged. "I give you my word that you can leave this house. You can go and live your life. I only want an opportunity to get to know you better."

My instincts screamed out,No. Hell, no. Trust no one.He was saying the right things, using all the right words, but God, could he be trusted?

Like you trusted Saint?

I swallowed and nodded.

"I'll leave you to it. You can get freshened up, and later we’ll have dinner together."

"I don't have anything to freshen up with."

"Sure, you do. The lavatories are well stocked, and I think I have your size in the closet."

I lifted my brow. "How did you get my size?"

"Let's just say that I'm an enterprising gentleman. Everything should fit. If it doesn't, please let me know and I will take care of it."

“And the poor woman who went shopping for me… What happens to her if things don't fit?" I couldn’t help the snark.

His gaze narrowed at my mouthy response. "I'm a man who is just trying to get to know his daughter. And if you give me theopportunity, that's all I want to do. Can you give me that? Three days, that's all I ask for right now."

I nodded. "Will you give me your word that you will let me go at the end of those three days?"

His brow furrowed. "You already intend to leave? Yes, I give you my word that you may go unharmed. However, I want you to know that I hope you won't go. I want you to stay because you are family. Of course, that choice will be entirely up to you."

I nodded. "Thank you."

He turned to walk away from me but spun back to ask, “How did you find me Kaya?"

This was the part where I had to lie my face off. He didn't know that Rogues had Lohman. "Connor Phelps. I met him at the charity auction a few weeks back. He and his men were quite… persistent. He said all you wanted to do was talk and gave me the instructions to meet you at the cafe." Mostly the truth.

He stroked his chin as he watched me. “And where is Connor now?”

“I have no idea. I haven’t seen him since then.”

Igno watched me warily as if trying to poke holes in my story. "We have a lot to catch up on. I just wish I'd known you before. We lost so much time. I have a whole legacy to share."

I deliberately hardened my face, giving him nothing. "Well, my mother certainly left a legacy too, didn't she?"

"How did she tell you that I was your father?"

"The papers she left me. Your name was in there, and I put two and two together."

He put a hand over his heart. "Maybe she meant for us to meet all along. But still, it’s lucky you found me. I'll leave you to it."

When he closed the door behind him, I breathed a sigh of relief. I wasn't so stupid as to think that maybe he wasn't watching me. He’d given back my phone, my wallet, and all mypersonal items, but I’d been warned that I’d have no cell service here. But if I wanted to listen to music or something, I could do that directly from my phone downloads.

And I did just that, playing something loud as I pulled out my wallet and laid back on the bed. What Igno didn't know was that one of my so-called credit cards was a signal booster. It could get me through the jammed signal to send an encrypted message. I tapped one app quickly to signal the team and let them know I was in the house. I sat up and slid off my boots, massaging my heels with one hand while activating the tracker in the heel of my boot with the other. Anyone watching would just think that I was massaging my poor aching feet.

Then I went on acting as normal as I could and headed to the bathroom for a shower. I really hoped that they weren't so disgusting as to put a camera in the bathroom.

If I said that I wasn't drained by all of this, I would be lying. Even though I was my mother's daughter, this still took a lot out of me. After all, I had just walked into the lion's den to bring down the biggest beast I could imagine.
