Lock grinned at me. "Okay, good, so you do know that it's insane. Glad I'm not the only one."

"Mate, I know."

"I mean, especially with everything else you have going on. We’ve got Lohman in custody, and our interrogators haven't gotten shite from him."

"I'm completely aware of that."

"You haven't been back to see him?"

I shook my head. "Nope."

"Because you are now planning this extravagant wedding and long-term marriage?"

"We're not actually going to get married. We just need to take the heat off her. I mean, it's not a terrible plan. Just having a powerful name and making her someone who's not anonymous will make things a lot easier."

"I know what you’re driving at. And that way if she's at the company, we've got eyes on her at all times and protection is easy."

"Yeah, I thought it was brilliant."

King rolled his eyes. "Mate, don't get cocky."

I laughed. "She's just a kid. All she wants is her life back."

King's gaze slid over the crowd until it landed on my fiancée with her tanned skin glowing under the lights of the chandelier. Saffron was there too, looking every bit the fashion model, also wearing black, but in a silky material. And then there was Tabatha, wearing bright white and daring the world to spill red wine on her. King said, "I mean, she may be young, but she is definitely no kid and she's not ugly."

"I'm aware she's not ugly. And okay, maybekidis the wrong term. Just a little younger than what I should be dating. But she's got sass and intelligence, mate."

"And she still has no idea how you’re benefiting from the arrangement?"

I shook my head. "No. There's no reason for her to. In the meantime, I'm working on trying to figure out exactly what's going on with her. She doesn't trust me, nor should she. But at the very least, I can keep her safe." I could feel the burn of King's gaze on my profile. "Do you have something else to say?"

"Oh no, not me. I don't know anything."

"Just spill it."

"Obviously, unless it's mission protocol, don't tell her who you really are outside of the billionaire leader of All Saints Technologies."

“It’s not and I won’t. Right now I’m just trying to keep my family from fucking this up.”

"Speaking of the old man, what did he have to say about Kaya?"

"Nothing good. Right now, I'm just hoping he lays low and doesn'tsay anything to piss her off or make her run."

"In that case, you should probably go get her before he catches up to her."

He angled his head toward the west doors, and I could see the old man was making a beeline straight for her. Lock didn't needto tell me twice. I drained the rest of my scotch and marched straight to Kaya.

Saffron saw me approaching and lifted her brows, angling herself just in front of Kaya as if I was coming to hurt her. But no, I was coming to use my body to physically protect her from that bastard.

"Darling?" I reached for Kaya's hand and intertwined our fingers, ignoring the heat of electricity that skipped over me. Kaya's eyes went wide, but she didn't shake me loose. She schooled her expression quickly and replace it with one of adoration.

Pulling her close so only she could hear me, I said, "Prepare yourself for my dear old dad."

When my father approached, Saffron really did protect Kaya this time with her body. "Excuse me, can I help you?"

My father stopped just short of walking straight into Saffron. "What the hell is your problem, girl?"

"Well, first of all, you walked into me, so I think the proper phrasing you're looking for isI'm so sorry."
