His brows lifted and he turned beet red.

I swallowed a chuckle. Saffron was not the one to fuck with.

Tabatha eyed my father up and down. "Oh, so this is what you're going to look like eventually, Saint. But somehow I don't think you'll be nearly as ugly."

My father whipped around, glowering at her. Tabatha just stood there, her hair pulled up into some kind of swooping side bang thing and a ponytail that had loose curls. She looked elegant but still young. "Just who do you think—"

I stepped forward before he could insult my friends further. "Is there something you want, Dad?"

"Well, I'm here to meet my future daughter-in-law."

Kaya squeezed my hand. "Sir, it's lovely to meet you. I'm Kaya Reynolds."

My father eyed her up and down, and I prayed to God he was not going to say something sexist or racist because with him you never fucking knew.

"So, this is the whore who's after my family's money?"

Kaya lifted her brow. "Well, Jasper, when you mentioned he was a bit of a dick, you weren't kidding."

I grinned at Kaya then. "Darling, meet my father. You never have to speak to him again."

Dad continued to leer at her. "He’s already had one engagement and he failed at that. She wanted an improved version, so I had to show her the upgrade. Isn’t that right son? And you have never let me forget it."

Kaya just shrugged. "I recognize that says a lot more about you and his former fiancée than it does about Jasper."

All the old man could do was glower at her.

Kaya one. Father zero.

Apparently, my siblings also saw my father barging in.

It took Trevor a little longer to get to us, but Adrianna marched straight for him. "Dad, why don't you leave Jasper and Kaya alone?" She turned to Kaya with a wide smile. "It's lovely to see you again. I'm so sorry I was preoccupied earlier this evening." She took Kaya's hands in both of hers and then leaned in to give her a kiss on the cheek. I could tell Adrianna whispered something to her, but I couldn't hear what it was.

My sister stepped back to make room for Trevor. "And you remember Trevor."

Trevor rolled up, dressed to the nines in his tuxedo, and he reached forward with a hand to take hers. "You have to forgive my father for his rudeness. I think I speak for Adrianna when I say we are thrilled. Jasper could use some happiness."

Kaya gave Trevor a wide smile. "Thank you again for welcoming me into your family. I don't have a lot of family of my own, so this means a lot." She was really playing the part.

I'd been so busy worrying about protecting her from my father that I didn't see how easily and effortlessly she could charm my siblings. Adrianna turned to me and gave me a knowing look that saidoh boy, I love this one. Trevor wheeled around, giving me a head nod and a wink. I'd be hearing a lot from him later about this. My father, once he saw that my brother and sister were supporting me, didn't bother excusing himself and just marched off.

I turned to my fake fiancée. "Now that the disaster is over, are you ready to announce this thing and let the whole world know that you're mine to protect?"

CHAPTER 17

SAINT

She was tense.I could feel it in the car.

I had driven us for ease and convenience, but it kept me from being able to study her face properly.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just—I can’t believe we just got on stage and announced our engagement. That was a shit show."

My lips twitched. "Yeah, you could say that. The good news is, it’ll give us plenty of press."

"Yes, the whole world knows that I'm your fiancée now. And I'm engaged to someone I barely know."
