"All right, I'm going back to my room."

I lifted my gaze, catching the glimpse of his bare feet. They were big with a smattering of hair on his ankles that wound around his strong calves and over the expansive muscles on his thighs. I drank him in, taking my snapshot before we would both be on lockdown again.

I stopped at his boxers, and I could see the enormous bulge. Holy fuck.

He cleared his throat. "Go back to sleep, Kaya." And then he turned and was gone.

I knew I'd said that it wouldn't happen again, but I knew without a doubt that before my fake engagement to Jasper Saint was done, I was going to break that promise. And I was going to beg him. Beg him to have me.

Saint

I could still feel the burning imprint of her lips on mine.

Fucking hell.

Sure, I’d told her to go to bed, but there was no way I could sleep after that. Besides, it was four in the morning. Perfectly rational time to start working out. When I went back to myroom, I leaned against the door as if holding back the driving need to run to her, to feel her desperation and desire mingled with mine.

There was no holding it back. It was like the night at the auction. And now she was here under my roof. Good luck resisting her now.

You should probably have thought of that before you decided to marry her.

Fucking hell.

I marched into my expansive closet. I had some Rogues gear in it and plenty of suits, but at least I had workout gear. I shoved on a pair of shorts and a T-shirt, grabbed some socks and a pair of trainers, and then marched down the hall to my private gym.

The whole time I was trying to shake off the need and desire, my brain tried to latch on her dream. What had she been shouting? 'Fight back. Fight back.'

What the hell had happened to her? Who was she supposed to be fighting back against?

Once I was in the gym and knew I was alone, I shut the door and jumped on the bike. I hit the com unit and dialed the special code on my phone. Gabe answered right away.

"What is it, Saint? What the fuck are you doing awake?"

"I'm off sleep. I never sleep." I'd expected to get an automatedresponse, not actually speak to him. "I'm just calling for an update on Lohman."

"He's still tight lipped, offering nothing. Interrogators can't get through to him. He doesn't care about anything. We're bringing in a specialist, so if you want to take another crack at him, you’ll want to do it this week."

I did want another crack at him. The last time hadn't gone well. He'd been the one to get inside my head.

He said you don’t even know what you have.

And what did I have? What didheknow I had?

"Yeah, I'll take another run at him. Not until tomorrow though. I need to get Kaya settled. She had some nightmare and she’s on edge. She said she wanted to go and find something of her mother's. I'm not sure what she's talking about."

Gabe was silent for a moment. "Of her mother's?"

"Yeah, I got the impression it was some files. She's looking for her mum, but I don't really understand why the gap. She made it sound like the files aren't readily accessible."

I could hear Gabe's deep sigh. "You do that. We'll handle Lohman."

"No, I need to talk to him."

Gabe's voice was clipped when he spoke again. "Ever since you started this mission, you haven't listened when I've given you a direct order. Can you explain to me why that is?"

I frowned. Gabe and I had no problems with each other. It wasn't like him and Lock. Lock was tied up with Saff, and Saff and her brother had lots of issues. They fought less now, although there were still times when they really did go after it. I could hear them clear across campus sometimes when they disagreed. But I’d never had a problem with him. I was a soldier at heart. I followed orders all the time, but right now I just had my hackles up.

"Listen to me,” Gabe said. “Lohman's under your skin. What you get won't be useful, and that'll make you far less useful to me."
