The king and queen charge into the room, yelling. “What is the meaning of this?”

Bella smirks and then leans back against Sebastian’s chest. As if to say. Go ahead, try me. When the king and queen see her stance, they immediately change from being ready to attack to being calm. I don’t know what exactly to tell them, but Bella apparently has a plan. She smiles and then steps forward, keeping all of us behind her. “Well, let me get straight to the point. I found my fated mate.” That is all she says, clear as day, with no signs of hesitation. You can see the king’s eyebrow twitch as he stares at her, trying to process exactly what she’s saying. She crosses her arms over her chest and just waits. It’s such a dominant move that it almost shocks me. It’s kind of interesting, though, if you think about it.

“Is there a problem?” Bella asks as she stalks forward, moving just slightly closer to the king and queen. Her eyes darting between the two of them as she waits to see what else they have to say. When nothing is said, she looks back at Sebastian, then over to Hollis and me. “I’m taking Sebastian hunting. We need time alone away from everyone. And it’s quite obvious that this is unwelcomed.” She lets out a huff, turns right around on heel, dragging Sebastian with her.

Chapter32

Belladonna

Just as Istart to drag Sebastian away, I hear the king and queen yell for me to stop. Apparently, me taking my life in my own hands is a problem. I will not have my every breath dictated by anyone anymore. The hairs prickle on the back of my neck, and my wolf is raging deep within my chest. I stop dead and spin on my heels to face them, shoving Sebastian behind me. I feel the shadows whipping out and lashing around me. It’s almost like a maelstrom of darkness that’s ebbing from my very pores. I stare them down and watch as Orwell backs up and hides behind his parents.

None of them have seen me go to this level of nuclear before, and I can guarantee you at the rate that this is going. This will probably not be the last time. Stalking forward, I leave Sebastian where he stands and move to stand in front of King Mateo. “What is the meaning of this?” I say to him. My voice is almost a hiss as the growl tries to overtake my human tone of voice.

He stutters for several seconds and then finally spits it out. “How dare you choose a commoner over my son?” There is the crux of the problem. He is upset that his pedigree son is not my mate and that I’m choosing someone that was born not of noble blood to be my mate.

It’s not like we can choose in life who our fated mate is. They just simply exist. It’s not my fault that neither of his sons were my fated mate. None of us could have foreseen this, and to be perfectly honest, I’m quite happy that I won’t be in his household at all with the way he’s currently acting. Clearing my throat, I turn around so I’m half facing Sebastian and half facing the king and queen.

My own mates are moving to flank me on either side. Preparing for just about anything that may come though at this point. I suspect nothing is going to happen for fear of retribution from me. They know within a matter of moments I can absolutely decimate this entire place if I really wanted to. The shadows are a powerful thing and can easily rip this castle to shreds, just barely leaving the foundation left. I continued to stare at them for several moments before deciding to speak yet again.

“You know, Daddy dearest tried to control me. Mummy also tried.” I let those words just hang in the air for several moments, and suddenly the realization of my underlying threat dawns on King Mateo’s face.

“Unlike some children, I don’t take kindly to being told what to do. They sentenced me to a graveyard because my parents feared me, feared what they created. And here I am finally free, for the first time in my life. Who do you think you are, trying to tell me what to do? You are not even family. I’m the Queen of the Shadow Court. Your queen. The one that rules over all the packs, not just one. So now you’re choosing to stand against me. Is that truly wise?” I arch a brow, looking at them, waiting for one of them to say something out of line.

When no words come, I slowly turn and I face my mates. “No one is to follow me. Am I understood?” They both nod their heads and then look back at the king and queen. As if to say, “Don’t even think about it.” Since it’s still early in the day, I can’t really move too far through the shadows except in the house, and I refuse to stay under their roof any longer. Sebastian and I leave right out the front door as if nothing has happened and then walk through the town. We pass all the shops, the specialty places that sell all kinds of interesting knickknacks, desserts, and foods.

It’s a nice long slow walk casually heading toward the woods at the edge of the town. It’s much nicer than being trapped in the castle, to be perfectly honest. Once we enter the forest, I finally breathe a sigh of relief. Sebastian’s large warm hand rests on my shoulders and that zing that I was looking for, that soft tingle of recognition, moves through me. My mate is touching me. We make it deeper into the woods to find a pond surrounded by lily pads and ferns. I stand at the water’s edge and he moves closer again, pressing his chest against my back and wraps his arms slowly around me.

“I never would have thought you would have chosen me over the prince.” His tone is soft, and it sounds broken, almost like he’s a more disbelief of my choice than anything else.

I can’t help but feel like my heart is breaking listening to this sweet man not understand why the idea of a true mate trumps the idea of marrying a prince. I spin in his arms and look up at him and smile. “I'll only explain this once. It’s very easy and I’ve said it from the beginning. I will settle for no less than my true mate. My true fated mate.” I enunciate the words carefully as I look up into his blue eyes.

“Until about a day ago, I was okay with my decision to claim a compatible mate instead of my fated mate. Last night dancing with him, and then seeing how segregated everything is I was not happy with the fact that they keep everybody separate. They didn’t invite the people of the town. That, by itself, bothered me. So I figured there was something worse on the horizon going on. I decided at that moment I didn’t want to be part of a family that didn’t treat their people like they were worth anything.” Shrugging my shoulders, I try to parse exactly how I want to explain the next part to him.

“So when we all went to bed last night. I forced Orwell to sleep on the couch. It was unbecoming of a prince. While my mates and I were in bed, we conversed softly once we were sure he was sleeping and hatched this plan today. I don’t like the idea of people trying to force me to do something I don’t want to do. His family is acting like this is not something I wish to be a part of. So they brought it on themselves.” Sebastian nods softly, listening to me. He understands exactly where I’m coming from. It’s no mystery to him now why I rejected the idea of being with them. Hopefully, it puts his mind at ease.

I pull free of his arms and step away. I drop my clothes at the base of the tree that overshadows us. “Come run with me,” I say to him just before shifting to my wolf.

I know she’s mammoth compared to his. But that’s okay in this instance. Size doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters to me is that my mate is running beside me, and we get to spend time together today. He moves forward and runs his hand over the back of my wolf, threading his fingers through her thick hair. It makes me smile. He’s actually not afraid of her, and that’s a beautiful thing. I wait several seconds more and eventually he strips.

Dear Lord, that man is packing. This is gonna be painful and the most exciting ride of my life. He smirks, seeing where my wolf’s eyes are looking. Just before he drops to all fours before shifting. His wolf is almost snow white. It has gray markings, almost like a saddle. It’s beautiful. We run through the woods, almost playing tag. And it’s probably the most carefree moment that I’ve had in quite some time.

My paws hit the moist soil at the edge of the lake and its cooling effect sends a chill through my body, making the hairs on my back stand on edge. As we pound across the soft forest floor, each lengthened stride takes us further and further away from the castle and deeper into the woods surrounding the village itself. We head up into the deep part of the mountains far beyond the reach of the city. We find an outcropping at the top of the mountain that has a nice flat rock covered in moss. We can see the entire valley below us. I stand on the edge of the rock, looking down observing the forest below us. Sebastian’s smaller wolf rubs its length against my side and then nuzzles the underside of my throat. Letting me know he is standing right there. I nuzzle the side of his neck in return. Shifting back to my human form, I kneel before his wolf. My fingers thread through the soft white and gray patches on his sides and back.

His wolf gently rests his head on my shoulder and starts sniffing at the mark that Orwell had made. I get a wicked gleam in my eye and then put my lips near the ear of his wolf. “The bond, bite his mark. Make me yours,” I say to him, and he pulls his wolf’s head back suddenly to stare.

He looks me deep in the eyes, making sure he heard correctly. “Bite me. Break the bond. Set me free from him,” I say again, imploring him to break what tethers there may be between Orwell and me.

He only hesitates for a moment before his wolf sinks his teeth in and does what he’s meant to do. The minute I feel his canines break through my flesh, I feel the agonizing pain and burning. Unlike the human canines that we use during the bonding process, His wolf's teeth sink so much deeper into my flesh, burning their impression into the layers of muscle of my shoulder. The tether to Sebastian falls into place. I salivate with the urge to return the bite, but I know that with the thickness of his fur, my human canines cannot do it. I feel him slowly shift back to his human form with his teeth still embedded in my shoulder.

The minute I feel flesh under my mouth. I lunge forward and sink my teeth in as deeply as possible. An appreciative moan escapes his lips. As he slowly withdraws his teeth from my shoulder. His hands caress my sides gently as one hand slides up the back of my neck, routing his fingertips into the thickness of my hair, holding me to his shoulder. The evidence of his pleasure shoots out and hits me right in my lower abdomen.

A soft smile creeps across my stretched lips. I know that I just did that to him. The pleasure of my bite brought about an orgasm from him. I stay locked on him for several more moments, as I feel the warmth of our bond pulsing through my veins, just as hot as the blood that is there. When I’m sure that the bond tether is strong enough. I release him and lick the wound that I created. We stare back at each other in wonder. Both of us, with our lips covered in the other’s blood laugh hysterically while we stare at each other. We use our thumbs at the same time to wipe the blood away.

It’s now that I feel the miracle that is that of a true mate. It’s so much better than the bond that we tried to forge with Orwell. That felt so dirty and unnatural compared to this. I have successfully now taken a mate from each of the three elements that I have gone and visited. The next part is to seal this bond fully. I slowly climb on to Sebastian’s lap, urging him to lie back and he complies quickly. With each slide of my skin against his, I feel his length harden again.

I can’t help it. I’m a dominant. I enjoy putting my males on their backs. I enjoy holding them down and being in control. Maybe it’s because I’ve never been allowed to be in control, but now I am. He still strokes my sides gently till his hands slide down and grips my hips tightly and lifts me up. When he does, I reach down between us and line him up with my entrance. With a smirk on his face, he slams me down, burying himself deep within me. My breath hitches the minute I hit the base. I’m so full, so overly full and stretched to capacity. Never have I felt something like this in my life. The rest of the bond burns into place and I feel complete.

The warmth for my other two mates flood the bond and Sebastian’s eyes blaze to life, feeling them now through me. He laughs softly before he urges me to move. Every rock of my hips is met with a deep-seated thrust from him. Every long drag of his member through my channel sets my nerves on fire, tingling through me. Making my blood run hotter than before with the excitement and the pleasure that he’s bringing me. I feel everything snapping into place. I feel complete and whole as the tingles run through my lower body. I feel myself pulsing gently around his length, gripping it, sending more shockwaves of pleasure through my core till finally I detonate. I throw my head back, arching my body moaning and crying out from the sheer force of the orgasm that’s gripped me. It’s probably more powerful than my other two mates. I consider how this mating is different. I chose him without being forced into the situation.
