“I was in the car once. Remember, I went out with that guy Myles a few times. He’s best friends with Lark, who is with that guy with all the animals.”

“Remy,” Levee supplied.

“Yeah, that’s him.”

“So he can vouch for us. It’s just a house, not some portal to hell or some shit. We even keep the yard edged and recycle and all that stuff. Plus, he’d know where to find you. So you’re safe.”

“He’s making good points.”

“Maybe the point is that I don’t want to go.”

“Amaranta,” Levee said, shaking his head. “It’s Seeley.”

He was right.

Somehow, no matter what,it was Seeley.

“Fine,” I said, sighing a bit dramatically. “Let me just grab my—“

“Here,” Michael said, already producing my purse. “Go on. I will lock up. The only thing I ask is you tell me how good the sex was tomorrow.”

We weren’t going to have sex.

I was going to see what was wrong with him that had Levee so worried, and then I was going to go home and get some sleep. Being back at work was draining me more than I anticipated.

“Okay,” I said, feeling a little frazzled as I followed Levee out of the clinic, with Teddy following behind.

“Uhm…” I said, looking at Levee as a man climbed out of the car in a suit to open the back door.

“Teddy is loaded,” Levee said waving into the car, wanting me to go in first. “See that? Being a gentleman and shit,” Levee said to Teddy as Teddy slid in behind me.

“Yes, I’m very proud,” Teddy said, sharing a smirk with me. “Dr. Stone, I’m sorry we are practically kidnapping you here. I wouldn’t participate if I wasn’t worried about Seeley as well.”

“Worried why? About what?” I asked.

“Only ever seen him like this once before,” Levee explained.

He didn’t need to elaborate.

I understood.

Because I’d been “like that” once before as well.

The biker club was over in Golden Glades, on a street in the middle of nowhere with really only one other house around.

The clubhouse itself had an impressive security gate. And, from what Seeley said, reinforced walls. I also imagined the windows would be bullet resistant as well.

Toward the back was a pool where it looked like someone was swimming laps.

And there was some area off to the side that looked like it might be some sort of animal enclosure or something.

“Where am I supposed to go?” I asked as we made our way into the house.

“Up the stairs. Second door on your right,” Levee explained. “I’d bring you up, but I don’t want him to be pissed at me for interfering, so I’m going to go enjoy some of Eddie’s leftovers.”

Teddy said nothing, just gave me a smile that was both understanding and encouraging.

Then, with nothing left to do, I made my way up the stairs, finding the door in question, and pausing there with my hand on the door, listening to some low music crooning from within.
