He winked at me, and I had to clutch my hands together to avoid punching him. As soon as he was gone, I thought my heart would rip out of my chest.

“Oh my God, Seth. He ordered a hit on Braden. What if he had died?”

Seth waved me off. “Thankfully, he didn’t.”

“Does Braden know?” I asked.

He nodded and my heart sank even more. “I told him just before coming here.”

I could only imagine how Braden was handling it right now. He was probably livid and ready to kill. Not to mention worrying about where the hell I was.If he only knew.

Seth huffed. “The issue with Braden isn’t what’s concerning me right now. He’ll be fine. Does Emma or anyone else know that you’re here?”

“No, and I want it to stay that way.”

He threw his hands in the air. “Why do you Jameson women have to be so damn stubborn? I don’t do secrets, Reagan. If your sister, Carter, Braden, or anyone else asks if you were here, I won’t lie. You better hope they don’t ask.”

They would with my luck. Braden was already going to have a million questions about what I did today. The question was … do I lie or tell the truth?

Finn grabbed my hand, drawing my attention to him. “Annika needs you. It’s important.”

My instincts fought within me. A part of me wanted to stay with Seth because I knew he was safe and he could get me out of there, but I couldn’t let Annika down.

“Okay,” I gave in, “let’s go.” Then, quickly, I turned back to Seth. “I’ll be fine. You don’t have to worry about me.”

Before Finn could lead me away, Seth snatched my wrist, his grip tight. “Reagan, wait.”

Growling, Finn grabbed Seth’s arm. “Let her go.”

“Whoa, guys, calm down. There doesn’t need to be a scene,” I warned. I could see it turning ugly fast if I didn't defuse the situation. Seth didn’t let me go, but he kept his glare on Finn, challenging him. I focused on Finn first. “It’s all right. I just need to talk to Seth for one second, and then I’ll come with you.” I held my breath as Finn contemplated my words.

Ultimately, he stepped back, never once taking his focus off Seth. Seth pulled me away to give us distance, and I could feel his anger. Yet, he kept a calm composure which unnerved me more.

“What the fuck, Reagan?” Seth hissed, letting me go. “Do you have any idea what you’ve gotten yourself into?”

I huffed. “I’m not in anything, Seth. Once I’m done with Annika, I’m going to stay as far away from your people as possible.”

Seth shook his head. “Oh, no. You should’ve done that from the beginning.” His eyes shifted over to Finn, and he sighed. “You were the last person I thought would make this hard on me,” he said, turning his hazel eyes to me. “Sellinger’s protection doesn’t come without a price, Reagan. I’m watching out for you because I care about your sister. I don’t expect any kind of payment. Finn, on the other hand, will collect when the time’s right. And I think we both know what he wants.”

That wasn’t going to happen. “I’ll handle it. I promise,” I stressed.

His jaw clenched. “You’re going to have to. Dealing with my brother is one thing, but I can’t start a war with the Sellingers. This is one mess you’ll have to get out of on your own.”

I didn’t like the sound of that. What I hoped more than anything was that I could trust Finn. He said he didn’t expect anything from me, and I had to hold him to that. If I was wrong, I’d deal with it when the time came.

Seth walked away and I prayed to God I didn’t just royally fuck up. Taking a deep breath, I turned to Finn and huffed. “I’m ready.” Finn glared in Seth’s direction but then relaxed when I joined him. “What’s going on?” I asked him.

Grabbing my hand, Finn pulled me through the crowd. “We can’t talk out here.”

He led me through the crowd to a secret hallway I had no clue was even there. There were four closed doors, but then a young woman with raven black hair and bright green eyes walked out of one of them, smirking at Finn as we walked past her.

“Good luck tonight,” she called out. Finn ignored her and stopped at the last door on the right.

“Who was that?” I questioned, watching the woman continue down the hall, dressed in a dark purple evening gown.

A rumble of anger vibrated in his chest. “Mila Porcello.”

Gasping, I jerked my head back to him. “What? Isn’t she supposed to be fighting Annika tonight?” She sure as hell wasn’t dressed for it.
