Unease slithered through my stomach. “And let me guess, if she didn’t agree, someone she loved would die?”

“Pretty much,” Seth answered. “I found out the whole story this morning. Elizabeth, Finn’s mother, was engaged to another man. Paul wanted her and concocted the contract, saying that her fiancé would choose money over her. Elizabeth put her faith in her lover, and he betrayed her. He chose the money and gave her away. Paul would have take away someone she loved if she refused to follow through.”

The whole story made me sick. “Oh my God, is that what Finn and Annika want to do with us?”

Seth huffed. “Not exactly. They have other terms in mind, and both contracts are combined.”

“It doesn’t matter what their terms are,” Braden argued. “Reagan and I will be the ones getting screwed.”

“Not if you win,” Seth pointed out. “I’ll start with you, Reagan. Annika wants to fight you for her right to Braden. It’s not a death match, only to TKO or tap out. If she wins, Braden has to belong to her.”

Braden snarled in disgust. “Never!”

I held up a hand. “And ifIwin?”

“Then Braden will be safe. Finn agreed not to go after him.”

“And if I refuse to fight?” I asked.

Seth sighed. “They’ll hunt Braden down.”

I blew out a shaky breath. “I see.”

Braden’s whole body trembled with anger. “What’s Finn’s part of the deal, huh? He wants the right to Reagan?”

“He does,” Seth replied. “It’s basically the same terms as Annika and Reagan’s contract. If Finn wins, Reagan will belong to him. If you win, Reagan will be safe. But if you refuse to fight, Annika can go after Reagan.”

Shaking his head, Braden turned away. “There isn’t an option here, Seth.” He glanced at me over his shoulder, and I ran a hand up his arm, his muscles tensing under my touch.

“I would fight anyone for you, Braden,” I whispered. “You can trust me to win.”

Braden faced me and rested his forehead on mine. “And you can trust me. I’m not letting that fucker win.”

I smiled. “We can beat them. Let’s show Finn and Annika what we can do.”

Stepping back, Braden glared down at his phone. “There. You have your answer. We’ll be back in California tomorrow.”

“All right,” Seth said. “I’ll get everything set up.”

Braden ended the call and pulled me into his arms, his lips firm when he crushed them to mine. “You belong to me and no one else.”

“The same goes for you.”

He cupped my face in his firm grasp. “Let’s end this, once and for all.”

I nodded. “Yes.”

We were given no choice but to fight, but even if we did have an out, I would’ve accepted the terms. Annika was going to feel my wrath.

CHAPTER33

BRADEN

We had just landed in California and were on our way to my house. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Reagan peering into the side-view mirror, probably looking to see if anyone was following us. It was another reason why we had to fight. We’d be looking over our shoulders at every turn if we didn't.

Putting Reagan’s future in my hands was terrifying, but I had to fight for her. I would always fight for her.

When we pulled up at my house, Ethan and Ripp were outside, waiting for us. Ethan hurried over to Reagan’s side and opened her door. She jumped out and he pulled her into his arms. “Thank God you’re okay,” Ethan said to her.
