Page 72 of Taking the Fight

I got out and fist bumped Ripp. His blond hair was brighter, and his skin darker from the Las Vegas sun. However, his eye was a little black and blue. “Did you get your ass handed to you before leaving Vegas?”

Ethan chuckled and fetched Reagan’s suitcase out of the backseat. “You could say that. He challenged a heavyweight fighter at the Labyrinth.”

Ripp shrugged. “Hey, I got a few good hits in. That’s all that matters. Everyone at the club will remember my name.”

“There you go,” I laughed.

Ripp opened the other backseat door, and I grabbed my bag. We walked inside the house, and as soon as the door closed, Ethan waved a hand in the air. “All right, tell me what’s going on. You said you’d explain when you got back.”

Coming to my side, Reagan leaned into me and I wrapped my arm around her. “Well, I guess you can say that Reagan and I have to fight for our freedom. If we don’t, the Sellingers will come after us again. We already found out we can’t hide from them. Finn knew where we were the whole time in Vermont and Maine.”

Ethan huffed and crossed his arms over his chest. “Fuck, man. What happens if you lose?” Jaw clenched, I looked at Reagan and she stared at me. I didn’t have it in me to say aloud what would happen to her if I lost.

Rubbing a hand down my arm, Reagan turned to her brother. “If I lose, Braden will belong to Annika. And if Braden loses ….”

Ethan’s eyes widened in shock. “Hell no. You’ve got to be joking, right?”

“I wish we were,” I growled low.

“This is insane,” Ethan thundered, running his hands angrily through his hair.

Reagan focused on her brother. “Braden and I have agreed to do this. We’re going to win.”

Ethan shook his head. “What if the Sellingers cheat? They wouldn’t have challenged you to this if they knew they wouldn’t win.”

He had a point, and it was all I could think about. I would never forgive myself if I lost Reagan. When she agreed to fight Annika for me, there was no doubt on her face whatsoever. I just didn’t trust the Sellingers to play fair.

Reagan shrugged. “I don’t know, Ethan. But what I do know is that wehaveto do this.”

Groaning, Ethan hung his head. “Mom and dad would shit their pants if they knew what you were doing. I can’t believe we’ve kept all of this from them.”

If any of our parents understood the situation, it would be my dad. He was the one who fought more at the Dark Side than anyone else in the parent group.

“Have either of you heard from Brooks?” I asked, glancing back and forth from Ripp to Ethan. Brooks was Ripp’s twin brother, so I figured he’d have more chances of talking with him.

Ripp shook his head. “Not recently. He’s on an undercover mission doing who the fuck knows what. He was very secretive.”

I nodded. “Hopefully, one day, he’ll be able to help us take down Nikolai and the other bastards fucking up our lives.”

“I hope so,” Ripp said, nodding in agreement. “If you and Reagan are going through all this shit, I don’t want to imagine what it’ll be like when it’s my turn. I know it’s coming one day.”

Ethan scoffed. “The same for me. No one in our circle is safe.”

Reagan let me go and took my hand. “Okay, I need to think about something else.” She gestured toward the back door. “Want to sit by the pool before heading to my parents’ house?”

I pulled her toward the door. “Sure. There’s something I wanted to talk to you about.”

When we got outside, I sat down on one of the lounge chairs and she straddled me. It was good to be home, but I couldn’t relax until the fight with Finn was over.

Resting on my chest, Reagan looked up at me. “What do you want to talk about?”

“I was serious about finding us a place to live,” I said. “I think we should start looking now.”

Her brows lifted. “Likenow, now? As in this very moment?”

I shrugged. “Why not? We can pick out a few and look at them tomorrow.”

Her smile widened. “Seriously?”
