When they finally parted, they were both panting from their passions. “Take me to bed, Remington. I want to finish what we started tonight. I want to be your wife in every way.”

They were the sweetest words that she could have uttered. He wasted no time in gathering her up in his arms and carrying her to the bed.

This time, his attentions had nothing to do with erasing the memory of her first love from her mind, but rather easing the pain that she’d held on to for so long. He stripped off his clothes and bared her to his gaze, bringing her to completion yet again, but this time when she clutched his shoulders and cried out, he slid into her welcoming heat. He had to steel himself from spilling inside of her too soon. It felt so good, that when he found his release, she was pulsing around him.

They truly were as one now.

Afterward, he moved to lay beside her. Reclining on his side, he gently moved the hair out of her face. “You are so beautiful, Isadora. Have I told you that?”

She smiled. “I believe you have. On more than one occasion, if I recall.”

“That’s good. I want to make sure there was no doubt in that regard.”

She laughed and combined with what they’d just shared, he found himself blurting, “I love you.”

Immediately, her face cleared of all merriment, her gray eyes widening. “Remington…”

He shook his head. He knew that tone, and to hear her say she didn’t feel the same would not set well with him at the moment. He didn’t want anything to mar this night. He put a finger against her lips. “Please, don’t speak. Just knowing that you’re my wife is all that matters.”

He saw indecision flash across her face, and then she nodded slowly.

Gathering her up in his arms, he pulled the coverlet over them and settled down to get some sleep.

Long after Remingtonhad fallen into dreamland, she lay awake.

I love you…

Those three words kept replaying over and over in her mind. Although she had suspected that his feelings for her had run deeper than mere friendship, the fact he actually spoke them aloud made them entirely too real.

She yearned to tell him the same, but she couldn’t force the words past her throat. The fear that had held her in its grasp for so long was still a powerful force. Neither did she want to lay claim to something that wasn’t true beyond a shadow of a doubt.

She had saw the pain flash behind his gaze, although he had done his best to hide it from her. He didn’t deserve a woman who couldn’t offer him anything less than the entirety of her heart. Unfortunately, she wasn’t sure she might ever be able to give him what he wanted. And that cut her to the quick.

She closed her eyes and forced herself to try and get some rest. Surprisingly enough, it was the warmth of her husband at her side that had her waking with the dawn the next morning. But that wasn’t the only reason.

Her eyes fluttered open when she could feel his erection pressing urgently against her thigh. Their positions had reversed during the night and she was nearly laying on top of him. Her breasts were flattened against his hard chest and her hand was perilously close to his hard manhood.

Isadora glanced upward and saw that he was awake, hismesmerizing eyes looking at her with a hooded glance. “Good morning,” he said huskily.

She let her hand slip down between them. “It appears to be that way for someone,” she returned saucily, and rather unlike her. She smiled broadly.

“Minx,” he growled. However, he allowed her to keep stroking his length until his breathing started to become harsh.

“My turn,” he said, as he pressed her into the mattress and laved her breasts with his tongue.

It wasn’t long before her legs started to move restlessly, and when they came together it was even more amazing than it had been the night before. Isadora reached the stars with Remington and they floated back to earth together.

“That’s a rather nice way to wake up in the morning.”

She laughed. “I admit it was rather pleasant.”

He rolled his eyes and gave her a playful smack on the bottom before he got up. She rolled on to her side and admired his sculpted backside as he slipped on a pair of trousers and a shirt. Once he was presentable, he walked back over to the bed and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. She sighed when he pulled back, because she could have enjoyed his attentions for the rest of the day. “I’ll be back. I’m just going to order a bath to be sent up.” He lifted a coy brow. “Would you care to give it a try? The fountain was grand, and all that, but—”

She swatted his arm. “Go request a bath.”

He bowed. “As my lady commands it.”

Much later that morning,Remington walked downstairs with a decided spring in his step. Although he was still disappointed that Isadora hadn’t returned his sentiments from the night before, he was glad just to be able to call her his at long last.
