“I knew it would work out. You were due some karma repayment.” Law grins. “I might be running late. Start without me if you need to.” I wonder about his sudden scheduling conflicts, but I bite my tongue. If my baby brother has a secret, it's his to keep.

“Finally, alone.” Placing a finger under her chin, I tilt her head up as I bend down to capture her mouth. I pour every ounce of gratitude I possess into the lip lock. Pulling away, I meet her molten eyes. “Thank you for sticking by me through this. I couldn’t have made it through sane without you.”

“That’s what I’m here for. Besides, I feel the same way about getting The Reading Parlor ready.” I smile at the mention of the shop where Fey and the boys are helping stock the children’s section.

Pride floods me. The space has become an amazing labor of love for both of us. Set to open next week, the store will be the realization of the dream she’s held in her heart for years. I run the pad of my thumb over the apple of her cheek.

“What?” she asks with a smile.

“I love you, Daphne Blume.”

“I love you too, Cowboy.”

“After we put Brax to bed tonight, why don’t we check off another item on your list?”

“Which one?”

“You’ll have to wait and see to find out.” I guide her down the street toward the bookstore, and she laughs.

“I can’t wait.”

Life ripped us apart once, but it brought us back together, and I’ve never taken a second with her for granted. When the time is right, I’ll get down on one knee and ensure I’ll always be her only cowboy.
