“To your girlfriend?” Her coquettish smile made me frown. Is she still distressed?

“No. My brother.” I scratched my head. “I’ve got to call him.”

I went into the hallway and called Angus, who picked up after a few rings.

“Hey. You woke me.” He sounded sleepy—or maybe drugged.

“I’m just checking you’re okay. You’re at home?”

“Yeah. I’m in fucking bed. Asleep.”

“Good. Stay there. I’ll be back by the morning with breakfast.”

“Picked up a babe? Hey?”

“Nope. See you in the morning.”

I put away my phone.

“You’re close to your brother?” She looked quite relaxed, making me wonder why I needed to be there.

“I’m his carer for the moment.”

“Oh, he’s not well?” Her eyes shone with concern.

“You could say that. Anyway, where shall I crash? I’m tired.”

She knitted her fingers, looking a little perplexed for some reason. “Sorry. Of course.”

She directed me to the guest room, which, with its burgundy velvets and gold-framed art, could have been a room in Buckingham Palace.

I pulled back the satin cover, and after stripping down to my briefs, I slid onto the super-soft sheets that smelled like a garden of roses. I closed my eyes and stretched out my body, indulging in billionaire luxury.

My eyes had only just closed when I heard footsteps. The cover lifted, and a flutter of cool air brushed over me. The mattress dipped slightly.

I turned on the lamp. Savanah sat up in a silky, see-through nightgown that left little to the imagination.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Can I sleep with you?” She reminded me of a needy young girl, but she was a woman in every sense of the word.

I was too tired to argue. It was too complicated. This girl was too complicated. And while I got the feeling that it wouldn’t take much to remove that silky fabric and slide into her, I wasn’t about to do that.

She snuggled up behind me, and I allowed myself to enjoy the warmth of her body, telling myself that was as far as it would go.

Her hands had other ideas, though.
