I feel his hand come to rest on my thigh and I tangle my fingers with his. I’ve no idea where he’s taking me. He’s giving nothing away, and up until half an hour ago, I didn’t know we were going anywhere. It’s been twelve months since my accident, and we haven’t spent a night apart since I woke up in the hospital. Seb pretty much moved into my place above Eden. I didn’t think it was possible to love him more than I did then, but I fall more in love with him every day. I’ve never been happier, and I know he feels the same.

When the truck comes to a stop and the engine cuts out, I bounce excitedly in my seat and Seb laughs.

“We’re here. Wait there and I’ll come and help you down.”

“Okay.”

Seconds later, my door opens, and he reaches around me to unclip my seat belt. Taking my hand, he helps me down from the truck.

“I’m going to take the blindfold off. Keep your eyes closed.” I nod, and he chuckles.

He removes the blindfold and places his hands over my eyes. He knows me too well and knows that I’ll peek.

“Can I look yet?” I ask excitedly.

“You can look.”

He removes his hand and I open my eyes. It takes me a few seconds for my eyes to adjust, and when they do, I’m not sure what I’m looking at. We’re standing in front of a beautiful house with a wraparound porch and a white picket fence surrounding the stunning front yard. When I turn to look at Seb, I notice a realtor board behind him, and my eyes widen.

“What’s going on, Seb?” I ask, looking from him to theFor Saleboard.

“Do you like it? What you’ve seen so far, I mean?” He sounds nervous and I can’t help but wonder what’s going on.

“It’s beautiful.”

“Do you want to go inside?”

“Okay.”

He takes my hand and guides me along the driveway, leading me up the porch steps to the front door. There’s a porch swing off to the right which I couldn’t see from the sidewalk, and I wait while he digs in his pocket for something. Pulling out a key, he opens the door and gestures for me to go on ahead.

If I thought the outside was beautiful, the inside is something else. The entryway opens onto an open-plan living room with a white wooden staircase leading to the second floor. Dark wooden floors flow throughout, and I walk through the living room, taking in the ornate marble fireplace and large sash windows on either side.

“Seb, this is beautiful,” I tell him as he follows me through the living room and into the kitchen where there are white cabinets with dark marble countertops and the biggest island I’ve ever seen. Off to the right, double doors lead out into the backyard, and I press my nose on the glass, gasping when I see a swimming pool beyond the large, decked area just outside the doors.

The conversation Seb and I had in the hospital on the day I woke up after the accident flashes through my mind, and I spin around to find him standing right behind me.

“The porch and the white picket fence,” I whisper. “The swimming pool in the backyard.”

He nods. “If you don’t like it, then we can look for somewhere else.”

“No. I love it. It’s perfect. It’s exactly what we talked about.”

“The realtor’s holding it for us. It’s ours if we want it.”

“How long have you been looking at houses?” I ask, knowing that after talking about it at the hospital, we haven’t mentioned it since.

He smiles sheepishly. “A couple of months. I wanted to find the perfect place. There are five bedrooms,” he says with a wink.

I laugh. “For those four babies you want?”

He wraps his arms around me and pulls me into his chest. “I was thinking it was about time we made a start on the rest of our lives, beginning with this house. Then after we’ve moved in, maybe a baby or two? I am a twin, after all, and twins run in families, so… what do you say. Are you ready for the next chapter?”

His talking of twins should freak me out, but it doesn’t. I can’t wait to start the next chapter of our lives together, and doing it in this house is nothing short of perfect.

I smile widely. “It’s a yes, Seb. A yes to the house, a yes to the babies, a yes to everything. I want it all and more with you.”

He drops his forehead onto mine and drags in a breath. I wonder if he thought I’d say no. He’s got nothing to worry about. Home to me is wherever he is, and I’ve never been happier than I am right now. I know there’s so much more to come for us. I can’t wait.

THE END
