When we’d met Wyatt for lunch earlier, he explained that if the team won, the players went for celebratory drinks at one of the clubs in Phoenix. They had a VIP section upstairs, and he promised to put our names on the guest list.

“Did you bring anything to wear to a club, Taylor?” she asks me, linking my arm as we walk inside.

“I did bring a dress. Just in case.”

“Me too!”

“Looks like we’re going to the club,” Seb says with a chuckle as he and Nash follow us inside.

“Seems that way,” Nash agrees. “Wanna head back to the hotel and get changed? I’ll message Wyatt and get the details of the club.”

“This is going to be such a great night,” Paisley squeals, and I laugh.

“Yeah, I think it is.”

Seb

We’ve been back at the hotel for about an hour. I was ready to go out ten minutes after we got here, but Paisley and Taylor seem to be taking forever to get ready. Nash and I are in the hotel bar having a drink while we wait for them.

“Does Paisley always take this long to get ready?”

Nash laughs. “Yeah. Usually. She’s worth the wait, though.” He wriggles his eyebrows and I roll my eyes. “How are… things?” he asks, taking a pull of his beer.

“Things?” I ask, raising my eyebrows in question.

“You know. Sophie?”

“Things are good.”

His gaze holds mine and I know he doesn’t believe me. “Really?”

“Really,” I assure him. “I’m happy they’re happy. They belong together.”

It’s the truth. I am happy for Cade and Sophie, and the more time that passes, the more okay I am about my feelings for her.

“What about Taylor?” he asks.

My eyes widen in surprise. “What about her?” I wonder if Paisley told him about finding me half undressed at her place the night after she was attacked. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had. I’m sure they tell each other everything.

“I’ve seen the way you look at her, man. You like her.”

“Sure I like her. As a friend.”

“It seems like it’s more than that. Sophie was always out of reach, but Taylor, she’s right in front of you, Seb.”

I shake my head. “I’m not like you and Cade. What you have isn’t in the cards for me.”

He frowns. “What do you mean?”

“The big love like you have with Paisley. While I’m happy for you guys, I know that isn’t something I want.”

“Why the hell not?”

I shrug halfheartedly. “Love complicates everything. I don’t need the hassle.”

“Hassle?” He shakes his head. “Sounds like you’re scared of putting yourself out there. I get that. I knew I was in love with Paisley way before we got together, but she was running scared and I never knew if, after everything she’d been through, she’d ever want to open her heart again. She took a chance, though, and look at us now.”

“That’s different. Anyone can see you two are made for each other.”
