Jared looks concerned. “Can you guys give Jo and me five minutes?”

Punk and Tony look at Jared like he lost his damn mind. They’re my security detail, and with Esteban on the loose, they would have to be dead to leave me unattended for five minutes.

My best friend rolls his eyes. “Fine. Just ignore our conversation, please.” Jared addresses me. “Are you upset because you don’t want children right now?”

Punk and Tony hiss, but it’s a perfectly fair question. I’m a newly married woman who has only had a short time alone with her husband. Factor in my hectic, packed work schedule with my new engineering design company. One might understand someone not wanting to bring in multiple children into the equation. But that’s not my issue.

“I want these babies. Nothing makes me happier than giving Maceo the family he’s always wanted. My issue is with a very dangerous, unresolved issue.”

“Esteban,” Punk says, understanding at once. “Is he the reason why you were anxious when we were at the ultrasound appointment?”

“Wait.” Jared holds up a hand. “You were at Jo’s appointment? You knew she was pregnant when I didn’t?”

Ah, shit.I forget how jealous these three get with each other, fighting over who I care more about.

Punk runs a hand over his face. “Atlas let it slip once they got back from their honeymoon. Remember Hades was acting all Jo-territorial? Well, I was his first victim—Hades came at me pretty aggressively once he figured out Jo was carrying babies. Atlas explained why the dog was being protective.”

Jared glowers at me. “Why didn’t you tell me? Why wasn’t I invited to go to the ultrasound?”

Oh, boy. Here we go.

Punk shakes his head. “Trust me, man. You wouldn’t have wanted to be there.”

Jared’s brows pull together. “How so? Don’t tell me a bit of navel would put you out?”

Punk throws up his arms in vindication. “See! I’m not the only one who thought that shit happens on the stomach.”

“Where else would they do an ultrasound?” Tony asks.

“Transvaginally.” Punk does a full-body shiver.

Jared’s eyes look like they might pop out of his skull.

Tony busts a gut. “And you were there? Did you witness that shit with the boss standing next to you? Bahaha!”

“It was awful. Not you, Jo—your hoohaa is delightful, I’m sure, but Atlas… I thought he was going to rip mine and every guys’ nuts off who was present.”

“Hold up. How many dudes were there?” Jared asks.

Punk counts off on his fingers. “Prez, me, the doc, and an intern.”

Tony doubles over. “Stop! My stomach can’t take anymore.”

Jared is looking at the sky, shaking his head. “Of all the guys you could have invited, I would have been the least threatening. I want a seat for the next one.”

“You can’t be serious?” I ask. “Gay or not, Maceo will not be okay with it. Hell, I don’t think he’s going to let the doctor in the room next time unless he magically turns into a woman.”

“If Jared gets to go, I wanna go,” Tony says, thumbing his chest. “We’ve survived death together. Your husband is cool with me.”

Punk snorts. “She’s my adopted sister, and hewasn’tcool with me there. He doesn’t give a rat’s ass that you laid your life on the line for her. He’ll annihilate you for stepping a foot over the threshold.”

Jared puts his hands up again. “If anyone gets front seats, it’s me and my man, Ziggy.”

“Not fair. I want VIP too,” Tony argues.

Punk has to throw in his two cents. “Well, if you’re all going, then I’m going again. All I got to see were some balloon sacs. I want to see the head, fingers, and toes too.”

“Jesus! No one is going next time. Hell, I may not even be going if I have another panic attack and accidentally abort my babies!” The back of my eyes sting, and I turn away.
