“The new head of the Bianchi mob has reached out to us?”
I couldn’t have heard correctly. “Pardon?”
“Piero Bianchi has been sent over from out east to take over as head Don in Denver. He wants to meet with you and ‘clear the air,’ smooth shit over or something,” Ziggy says with an apologetic tone.
“Fuck.” I knew another Bianchi member would take over the Denver territory once Lorenzo was taken out, it’s standard practice with the Italian mob, but I never would have imagined having to deal with them again. “Damn mafia. TANK!”
Heavy feet run down the hall before entering the room. “What’s up, boss?”
“Piero Bianchi. What do you know about him?”
Tank blinks, stupefied. “Um, wow, why? I mean, he’s the younger cousin of Lorenzo’s, twice removed, or some shit. Not a favorite among the family.”
Gauge asks, “Why isn’t he a favorite?”
“He doesn’t approve of theold ways. Rumor is Piero only deals in legit business endeavors.”
Interesting.“Do you know him personally?”
Tank shakes his head. “I’ve never met him. My dad got along with his dad fairly well, but they’ve passed. Pop always spoke good things about Piero, though. What’s this about?”
“Piero is the new Denver Don,” Ziggy informs him. “He wants a meet and greet.”
Tank scratches his face. “That’s a first. Bianchi mob never wants to interact with other power players in their territory. Maybe he wants a truce.”
I’m curious about that too. “Set up the meeting for nine tonight, Ziggy. Tell him he comes to headquarters or it ain’t happening. Gives us four hours before he arrives, plenty of time to prepare, and we’ll have a home turf advantage. Tank, round up the guys and tell them the bar is closed. Oh, and let's not mention to Stella who’s visiting. For all we know, she’ll be waiting outside in a car to take the new Don out like his cousin. I can’t afford another war with the remaining Bianchi mob.”
Tony leaves the room to inform the crew. Ziggy makes the call.
Gauge turns to look at me, folding his arms across his massive chest. “Shits about to get interesting.”
