“What comes with it?”

“First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage,” he sings triumphantly.

I stare wide-eyed at him, my heart sprinting. “Gauge…don’t mess with me. My heart’s not built for teasing.”

“Not messing with you, Opal. I want it all with you. Not tomorrow or the next day, but this is what I want for our future.”

Classic me, I tear up. This is all I have ever wanted with him since the day I met him. “Yes, to all of it.”

“Good,” he whispers, leaning in to kiss me. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” I sing between kisses. “Never forget that.”

“I think I need another reminder,” Gauge teases. He pulls out, removing the condom only to don another one. He rolls onto his back, taking me with him so that I’m straddling his lap. “Ride me, Gorgeous.”

CHAPTERFORTY-SIX

LEVI

Late September 2020

For the past couple of months, Levi has combed Fort Collins for Olina. Every other week, he gets clearance from his superiors at the bureau to investigate on Olina’s cold case.

Colorado is littered with motorcycle clubs, with several residing in Fort Collins alone. It was impossible to say if Olina was still connected to any of these groups, especially when showing her picture to several biker clubs, resulting in no leads.

Levi took a fresh approach, hanging around the campus of Front Range Community College, hoping he might glimpse his girl. An entire week passed with no sightings. It seemed Olina was only engaging in online classes. He hacked into the community college student records using FBI resources. Olina was actively involved in her GED course. Her grades were stellar. But she was avoiding the public.

Smart girl.

Too bad it was only a matter of time before he’d tracked her down.

Desperate, Levi went through her student file again, returning to the address she listed as hers. The property was owned by Captain Maceo Cruz Tabares, a retired Navy SEAL. A deep dig on the captain revealed interesting information. Captain Tabares is the owner of Mercy Ravens Security, a company providing personal protection, data retrieval, reconnaissance, and mercenary relief. Apparently, the company is in a close network with state security and the FBI. That alone wasn’t very interesting, but upon examining the company website, discovering that the security crew comprised bikers was attention-grabbing.

Levi went to investigate the land owned by the president of the Mercy Ravens MC. Construction was well underway to what looked like a modern apartment complex.Peculiar.The property wasn’t advertising apartment living, but maybe it was an investment property Captain Tabares was hoping to profit on. Levi left since it offered no further clues to finding Olina with it being uninhabitable.

A current address for the captain brought Levi to a tiny rental property on the city’s outskirts. The place oozed with bikers, but not once did he see Olina enter or exit the rental. He couldn’t stay anywhere near the property without attracting the attention of the several bikers present. She very well could be inside.

It clawed Levi apart to leave, not knowing if she was there or not, but it wasn’t safe to lurk too closely with an armed militia ready to attack at the drop of a hat.

The next time he returned, the rental was vacant. It was as if the biker gang had never been there. Panicked, Levi returned to the land development site, finding a compound of sorts. They fenced the entire property with security gates at every entrance. The apartment-like structure was being used as housing for the MC.

There were women on the grounds, but few compared to the men. And of the women he could see, none appeared to be staying there against their will—coming and going as they will, but always escorted by a biker. Levi wanted to investigate further, but he quickly spotted outdoor security cameras along the perimeter of the property. Lingering would get him noticed for sure.

Nothing proved Olina was ever involved or still involved with this crew, but she was spotted leaving Utah with a biker gang with birds on their cuts. She’s using this new property address in her school records. Mercy Ravens MC fits the bill.

Levi had to tread lightly. The group was held in high regard with some higher-ups in government. Olina was suddenly in a position of power, and Levi seethed with anger, being at a disadvantage for the first time. All it would take is Olina opening her mouth to bring him down. If she didn’t return on her own, Levi would take her. More than likely, he would have to leave his career behind, going underground with her. It was a possibility, and Levi would prepare for that outcome.

Benny’s words played on a loop in his head about the VP having taken a shine to Olina.

Fuming, Levi began investigating the man who may have deflowered his little girl. Master Chief Petty Officer Clint Roberts, retired Navy SEAL and jack of all trades is the man in question. He’s respected by those who have worked closely with him, is an honorary war hero, and negotiating genius.

And Levi wants to bash in his teeth if he laid hands on his property. If the biker tainted Olina, Levi would kill him, string him up by his neck and revel in his death.

Preparing for another week-long trip to Colorado, Levi is packing his bags at home when he gets an alert on his laptop. Alerts don’t happen often. It can only be Olina.

Levi springs across the room, grabbing his computer, nearly ripping it from the cord in the wall.

The notification is promising. Olina had passed her GED course, earning her degree. The school had sent her an email a few days before, enquiring if her contact information was correct for mailing her diploma. Olina finally responded with ayes.
