“How are you doing, angel?”I ask, walking inside the bedroom Tate had claimed as her own when we brought her to the cabin for the first time against her will.

She’s sitting on the edge of the bed, one towel wrapped around her head and another wrapped around her body, her soft skin still damp from the shower.

She turns her head toward me and blinks. “I was just sitting here thinking about my first night here.” The left side of her mouth curls in a half smile. “I should’ve been scared shitless. I’d literally just been kidnapped by three savages, but I wasn’t afraid.” I rake my fingers through my semi-damp hair from the shower and walk toward her, sitting beside her on the bed.

I place my hand on her thigh as she continues speaking. “Part of me knew I should’ve been, but the moment King wrapped his arms around me and held me on his lap, I felt safe. I can’t exactly explain it, and I know it probably sounds crazy, but I felt like I belonged with the three of you.” She removes the towel from her head, stands up, and rubs it against her short hair.

Standing before me, she drops her towel, and my eyes shamelessly roam over her bare body. I catch a smirk on her lips just before she turns and walks toward the closet that is still full of her clothing that hasn’t been touched since the last time she was here.

Seconds later, she reappears wearing silky red pajama shorts with a matching top that King bought for her months ago.

“I can’t explain it. It sounds crazy, I know, but I was never terrified of you guys.” She stands in front of me and places her hands on my shoulders. I trail my fingers up and down her smooth legs, tilting my head back to look up at her.

“You were always meant to be ours. You became mine the moment we met, and once you met King and Eli, you became theirs too.”

A faint smile spreads across her lips, and she shoves her fingers into my hair and tugs. “I’m going to see Eli tomorrow, but before I tell him anything, I need to tell you something important.”

“You can tell me anything, angel. You know that.”

“What I have to say…well, you’re not going to like it. You’re going to be so angry, but I need you to know that I’m truly sorry.” Her words cause unease to set in.

“What did you do?”

“I…” She sighs, looking down at her feet, her shoulders slumping. “I know that two of your businesses burned down.” Her words take me by surprise and give me pause.

Slowly, the wheels start turning, and pieces fall into place. “Angel,” I warn, standing to my feet and towering over her. “Tell me that you’re not going to say what I think you’re going to say.” She bites her lip, keeping her mouth shut. “No, don’t get silent now. What the fuck did you do?”

She steps away from me. “I’m responsible for both fires.” My hands ball into fists at my sides.

“What the fuck is wrong with you? Why would you do that?”

“Because I was angry!” she shouts, throwing her hands in the air. “I wanted fucking revenge on you bastards for leaving me. You fucking deserved it.”

My eyes narrow. “How poetic. You were left in a fire, so you decided to punish us by burning down our businesses.” I pace the room, pinching the bridge of my nose. “What’s your plan? Burn down the rest of our shit, or are you done?”

She quickly shakes her head. “I’m done, I swear.”

“What you did was fucking stupid. You know that, right? Dumb ass plan.”

“Well, I know that now, but I wasn’t thinking rationally at the time. I have an entire hit list, but everything is different now that Colton is in the picture and looking for Olivia.”

“So, if he weren’t trying to find Olivia, would you continue blowing up our shit?”

She thinks for a minute, then shrugs. “I don’t think so. Honestly, the second I saw you again, my plan went to shit.” Honestly, I should be fuming right now. For weeks, we’ve been trying to figure out who started the fires at our warehouse and pizza shop, and my not-so-dead angel was responsible for it all along. I know I should be angry, but whatever anger I may feel fades away once I look into her eyes.

“Why’s that?”

“Because I…” She pauses. “I feel things for you, and no matter how hurt I was, there’s no way I could continue to hurt you.”

“What do you feel for me?” I ask, grinning, going to her and wrapping my arms around her waist.

She tries to shove me off, but I don’t let her go. “It doesn’t matter.”

“Yes, it does. I think you love me, but you’re too afraid to admit it.”

She scoffs. “You fucking wish. You’re so full of yourself.”

“Admit it, angel. You love me.”
