I headed down the corridor like I owned the place, noticing several people eager to see what I could do. The door was closed but there was no time or need for pretense. Whoever the son of a bitch was, he needed to leave immediately. I burst inside, immediately sucking in my breath.

The hulking mass of a man stood in front of one bank of windows, staring out at the Vegas skyline. The bright morning sun cast a glowing set of shadows around him, but with his dark jeans, white shirt, and cowboy boots, he definitely stuck out like a sore thumb.

“It’s time for you to leave.” I walked closer, planting my hands on my hips. The man wasn’t budging, the only movement his body tensing. “Apparently, you didn’t hear me, so I’ll say it one more time. If you don’t leave, I’ll be forced to call the authorities and I assure you that you won’t like what happens when they arrive.”

Very slowly, as if the entire world’s clock had changed, he turned around. The moment he planted his hands on the desk’s surface, leaning over, time didn’t just slow. It stopped altogether.

Oh. My. God.

This was my worst nightmare coming true. Karma hated me. There was no other answer.

“Why don’t you tell me in explicit detail exactly what that will be,Sassy.”

My heart stopped, started, then repeated the cycle at least four times. I knew that the dumbfounded look on my face amused the hell out of him by the twinkle in his eyes that was exacerbated by the warm glow of the sun. I could clearly see every dazzling detail of his gorgeous face, the deep sapphire of his piercing eyes. The sunlight even made the skin on his forearms seem as if he’d been kissed by time spent outside, the ink more vibrant, his muscles larger.

Stop undressing him with your eyes.

I turned my head away, only for a few seconds to keep from drooling, but I regrouped quickly, closing the distance to his desk. Wait. Not his desk. This had to be some kind of joke.

“Who are you?” I demanded, able to cock my hip and look in him in the eyes. Well, mostly. I had to tip my head, the four-inch heels I’d worn still keeping me four inches shorter.

“Do I really need to explain that to you, sunshine? I’d be happy to provide an additional example, although I’m not certain this is the best location. Then again, maybe we could start an almost mile-high club of our own.” His grin was positively… disgusting.

And charming.

Fuck. There couldn’t be a worse scenario. Not in this lifetime anyway. He was even more arrogant than before. What had he been doing the entire time, playing me? Had he known that I was coming to work for his brother? That had to be it. No, the asshole had used me. What advantage did he think he’d gain by fucking me? The knots in my stomach were so huge I could barely breathe.

And the look he was giving me was… As if images of my naked body were rolling through his mind.

The heat swept up both sides of my face so fast I was certain there was a furnace blasting fire into the room. He continued to be amused, moving around the edge of the desk, his actions just daring me to take a step away.

I refused. This man, this glorious hunk of the male species would not drive me away.

“What are you doing, stalking me?”

Chuckling, he rubbed his jaw, which of course drew my attention to his three-day stubble that looked sexy as hell. “I belong here. I’m not certain I could say the same thing about you. Besides, if I were stalking you with any malevolent intent, then you’d already know of my intentions, sweetheart. I don’t fuck around with taking what I want. You of all people should know that intimately.”

He had a way of not only crawling under my skin but prying loose all those tight layers I’d shielded myself with, exposing desire for filth and sin.

“This is Mr. Masters’ office.” Great. The fire in my belly had shifted into an explosion of need. This was so not good.

“The last time I checked my driver’s license, the name Masters was on it.” He waited as the news sank in.

“You’re the brother taking over the firm?” No. No. Please, no.

“Yup.”

The momentary silence between us wasn’t just awkward. It was downright tumultuous. How in the world had this happened? Did God have a need to punish me for something terrible I’d done in my past life? Granted, I wasn’t a good girl all the time and I did cuss a lot, but I didn’t deserve to have my entire life derailed by a two-day mistake. Ugh. I couldn’t call it a mistake in good conscience. It had been one of the most exciting moments of my life. Goosebumps appeared on my skin from just thinking about it.

“Now that we’ve established who I am, I feel it’s important to learn why you’re here.” His grin widened and he had the audacity to allow his gaze to travel to shoes I’d spent nineteen ninety-nine on at Marshalls.

“I’m the new vice president.”

If the man laughed, I was going to do something violent. Whether I regretted it or not didn’t matter at this moment.

“Vice president, eh? Then you know this business?”

“Yes, I do.” I thought about how I’d embellished my resume just a tiny bit in order to get the job and cringed.
