“My name is Harlow.”Homewrecker. Slut. Bad girl. She said girlfriend. Please don’t tell me they have an open marriage, and their kid knows about it.I felt sick inside.

She wrinkled her brow, shaking her head adamantly. “Penny. You look like a Penny. That’s what I’ll call you. Come on, Princess. Let’s go play.” The pup followed her without hesitation, jumping and yipping as they both raced into the house.

I held my breath, trying to keep from laughing. Or screaming. I’d never felt so awkward, including from being spanked and fucked in an auto repair shop bathroom.

He leaned against the doorway, taking several deep breaths, remaining the silent, brooding man I’d met.

“I should apologize. Wait a minute, why should I?” I asked, doing what I could to keep from looking deep into his eyes, falling into the same hypnotic spell as before.

“Probably should. How’d you find me?”

“I asked questions until I got the answers I wanted.” I couldn’t help but steal a glance. When he cocked his head, heat crawled up my face. “My new assistant, or maybe my old one since I’m certain you’re firing me, thought you might be staying at your brother’s house. I didn’t realize you had a family. I don’t know what to say. Are you married? My God. I just… Did you go out on your wife? And why in the hell would you let your little girl know that you have girlfriends? Not that I’m your girlfriend. I know that. We just had a fling. A thing. A… Oh, God. I’m leaving. I’ll quit too. That would be better for the both of us. Wouldn’t it? I’m really not that—”

Before I could utter another word, he yanked me into his arms, crushing his mouth over mine. His scent was so incredible, trickling into every cell, his touch searing my skin. I was lightheaded, my entire body tingling.

He cupped my face, holding me in position as he thrust his tongue inside. He tasted like whiskey and cinnamon, the flavor as incredible as the man. As the kiss continued, he pulled me even closer, grinding his hips back and forth. The combination of friction and vibrations made every inch of skin prickle, sensitive to the touch. There was no doubt what was on his mind, and it had nothing to do with business. As the hard ridge of his cock throbbed against my stomach, I found myself melting into his hold.

What the hell was I doing? I slammed my hand on his chest, able to break the kiss. Without thinking, I smacked him hard across the jaw.

His eyes flashed, then he laughed as he rubbed his face. “Do me one favor, sunshine. Stop hitting me on the same side of the face. Give the other side some attention so it doesn’t feel lonely.”

“You’re married. You’re kissing me. You’re making jokes. You’re deplorable.” When he laughed, I was mortified.

“I’m not married, Harlow. Lily is my niece.” He tipped his head, giving me a smug look, lifting a single eyebrow as the news sank in.

“That’s why she calls you Savage.”

“She wasn’t too fond of Hunt, and she doesn’t know me, so ‘uncle’ seemed out of the question. So Savage it is. Do you always jump to conclusions?”

“Do you always kiss women you don’t like?”

“Who says I don’t like you?”

“You pretty much did in the office.”

He rolled his eyes. “Did anyone ever tell you that you talk too much?”

“All the time. So what?” I brushed hair from my eyes, trying to figure out how to recover. “You’re here because of Lily.”

“Yes, and the business. Galen and I had no other family.”

“I’m so sorry,” I said, although I doubted he was the kind of man who cared about sympathy.

He continued to stare at me intently. “Shit happens, sweetheart. Why are you here?”

“You know why.”

“Not sure I do, unless it has something to do with the fact you lied to my brother.” The expression wasn’t exactly a sneer, but it was pretty damn close, as if he was pleased as punch he’d just won a round in our sparring match.

“Shit.”

“You could say that. Do you want to come in out of the heat so we can talk about it?”

I glanced around him into the house, still able to hear Lily’s sweet jabber. “Do you really know how to make hamburgers?”

“You have no idea the talents I have.” When I continued to glare at him, he laughed. “I admit it. I know my way around a grill. Anything else and that’s pushing it.”

“Do you want some help?”
