“Of course they do.” I roll my eyes and kiss him. I’ve heard so many wonderful stories about the Lindrant Event. The money is raised for inner school literacy and all the elite in their expensive jewelry and fancy dresses.

Fancy dresses. Damn. I don’t have anything to wear to this thing.

“Crap, I don’t think I’m going to be able to come with you tonight.” I pout.

“Why not?”

“I have absolutely nothing to wear to something like that. I mean those women all wear only the best stuff and the best I have is maybe a cocktail dress from H & M, that’s not going to do.” I bite my lip as I think about what I could get on such short notice. When I see him looking away from me with a worried look on his face.

“Percy, you okay?”

“Yeah, I just know that we’re about to have an argument and I really don’t want to do it.” He sighs and turns back to look at me. “I don’t want you to be pissed off, I’m not trying to buy you or anything like that, but yesterday while I was at work I had the personal shopper pick up a few dresses and things for you to have here. It’s not a lot, but I like you spending the night sometimes and I don’t want you to have to worry about getting back to your house for clothes if I accidentally rip some of your things. I want you to be comfortable.” He stares at me, waiting for the argument to come.

“What else?”

He shakes his head in confusion, “What do you mean what else, that’s it.”

I jump again and squeal, “Are you kidding me! Why would I be mad about that? I get clothes! I’m so happy!”

I hop off the bed and rush over to the closet. I pull it open, but only see his stuff.

“It’s in the walk-in closet, in the next room. “ He points and I take off in that direction.

When I get there I see why he needed to use a whole other closet. The little bit he talked about takes up the whole space. It’s all gorgeous and very expensive. Now I understand why he’d thought I was going to fight with him.I don’t know if I can accept all of this. “Carrie.” I call out for her and a few seconds later I hear her walking through the hallway. “I’m in here.” I tell her and she sticks her head in the door.

“What’s up chicken butt?” She has a huge sandwich in her hand and water in the other.

“Where the hell did you get that?” I can’t help but laugh a little. My best friend is ridiculous sometimes.

“The fridge, he’s fully stocked in there.” She gestures with her head.

“Ready for my moral dilemma?” I look at her with raised eyebrows.

She swallows her food and puts her water down on the table near the door. I grab her hand and pull her towards the closet so she can see everything in here. “You think it’s messed up for me if I accept this? I mean we only made it official last night, this is a lot, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, it’s a lot, but he has a lot. You don’t have to take everything home with you, do you? Use what you want and that’s the end of it. If the man wanted to buy you I’m sure he’d have told you how much you needed to appreciate what he was doing as he was doing it. I see some things in here you’d have never in your life taken off the shelf so I know he did this as a surprise for you. He doesn’t want to buy you, he just wants to do something nice. Accept it and move on.” She shrugs and picks up her water taking a few quick sips before she puts it down.

“Yeah, that’s right. I didn’t ask him to do this. I’m not going to be pissed, he just wants to do something nice for me. That’d just make me bitchy.” My eyebrows furrow and I look back to the closet. “What do you mean about pieces I’d never pull off the shelf?” I can’t see anything in the closet I don’t like. Everything looks amazing so far.

“Don’t play. Are you telling me you don’t see that travesty?” She puts her food down before she storms in the closet and pulls out a hot pink dress with more tulle than dress under the skirt. I nearly vomit in my mouth.

“What the hell is that? Oh God!” I take the dress out of her hand and push it far in the back of all the clothes. She’s right. I’d never wear anything like that.

Carrie laughs, big belly laughs and wraps a hand around her gut. “Oh man. I don’t know who picked that, but tell them they should burn anything that looks like that. Now, what do you need all these clothes for? We getting dressed up for something?”

“Yeah, he invited me to a banquet tonight. I’m sure I’ll be able to find something to wear in here. It’s a very fancy affair.” I pull out a few pieces and instantly put them back for some reason they all seem like they’d drown me. I could put on an elegant dress here and there, but this feels like I’m about to go meet a queen or something like that.

“You already look overwhelmed.” Carrie pats my arm and turns me to look at the clothes. “No worries, we’re going to doll you right up.” She smiles and I pull her into a hug. Honestly I don’t know what I’d do without her.

A soft knock on the door and Percy leans his head into the large walk in closet.

“Okay, enough now Percy. I mean how much brown-nosing are you going to do? Doesn't matter what you buy I’m still going to be on Ella’s side.” Carrie sighs like she’s annoyed, but then shoots him a smile and a wink before going back to the rows of clothes.

“Everything okay?” He looks to me.

“Yeah. I mean it’s a lot, but I do appreciate it.”

“Great. I’m happy you like it.” He leans against the door frame and looks me over hungrily.
