Foster: Hey, just letting you know I'm going to be back tomorrow morning. See you soon.

I bit down on my lower lip. "Well, I guess your brother's back from his business trip tomorrow."

"Oh, cool." Rosalie smiled. "I've missed him. Haven't seen him in a while."

"Yeah, it's been thirty-five days or something like that," I said quickly, not wanting her to know I'd been counting.

"So this is going to be the first time you guys actually live, live together, right?"

"I mean, we've been living together."

Yeah, but Oliver and I were there, and then he went away. So it's just going to be the two of you," she said, winking. "How fun."

"Yeah, it should be cool. I hope we get along."

"Don't do anything silly."

"What do you mean?"

"Oh, I'm just joking, Alice. I know you're not into my brother like that. He's such an immature player."

"Yeah, exactly, totally. Not my type. I mean, he's cute. He's your brother and all, but—"

"Hey"—she held her hands up—"no need to explain to me. I know he's a player. He's probably done every woman in Europe."

"You think so?" I said.

She shrugged. "I don't know. But players love to play, right?"

"Yeah, I guess so. It'll be nice to see him, though. And if you guys want to come over for dinner tomorrow night, that'd be great. I mean, maybe I should check with him first. He might have jet lag, so we can come over for lunch if he's back in the morning."

"Sure, just let me know."

"Sounds good," I said. "I'll text him and let him know."

"Yay." She looked at her watch. "Oh man, I should get going."

"Oh no. Where are you going?"

"We have some parent-teacher meetings later this evening. And even though I don't have to be there because technically I'm just the assistant, the teacher said it would be good practice for me to see how they're run for when I'm a teacher."

"Oh, cool. And you have to get there already?”

"Yeah. I told her I'd help set up." She smiled at me. "You don't mind, do you? I know we didn't really talk much about your career plans and stuff."

"Don’t worry about it. We’ve got plenty of time for that. Maybe tomorrow at lunch."

"Yeah, that sounds great," she said. "Oh, Alice. I'm so glad you're here in New York City with me."

"I'm so glad too. I’m so lucky to have you as a best friend."

"No, I'm the lucky one. I feel like I’m on cloud nine right now. I have the best best friend in the world. I have the best fiancé in the world."

"Yeah, and you have the best job."

"I kind of do." She grinned. "Sorry. I'm—"

"Do not apologize. It's fine. I'm so glad you're happy, and I'm sure I will meet someone soon. Who knows? Maybe Sylvester Nolony will want me."
