She started laughing. "Okay. You're right. The name does sound like a dud."

"I mean, at least you're going to be Rosalie James."

"True," she said. "I wonder what your new name will be, Alice."

"Yeah, me too." I sipped on the last of my macchiato.

"Well, you have a great afternoon."

"Thanks, girl. See you later." I stood, and we hugged each other, and then I watched as she left the coffee shop. I grabbed my phone and text Foster back. My heart was racing.

Me: Hey, I hope you had a great business trip. I was actually at the coffee shop with Rosalie. She wants to bring lunch tomorrow. Sound good?

I sent it. I smiled when I got a response back immediately.

Foster: Perfect. Looking forward to seeing you all. Hope you didn't miss me too much.

I stared at the message, wondering what he meant and if he was serious.Me: Of course not. I felt like I had my own apartment in the sky. Ha ha.

He responded with a smiley face. I bit down on my lower lip, wondering if I should send anything else back to further the conversation.

He sent me another message.

Foster: Is there anything you want from London? I'm at the airport right now and thinking of presents to bring you and Rosalie.

"Aw," I said out loud, my hand flying to my mouth. How thoughtful and sweet of him. I couldn't believe he was going to get me a present. I beamed from ear to ear and responded quickly.

Me: Surprise me. I love surprises.

Foster: Okay. Sounds good.

Me: Well, I'll let you go. See you tomorrow?

Foster: Okay.

Me: Bye. Safe flight.

I turned my phone around and placed it on the table so I wouldn't be able to see the screen if he responded. I was excited, really, really excited to see Foster again. I didn't know what it would be like living with him, living with my best friend's brother, the guy I'd had a crush on for most of my teenage years, the guy who had been closest to me in my life.

He knew things about me that even Rosalie didn't, making me feel slightly guilty. He'd been there for me at a time in my life when I'd not known what I was doing. And even though we'd drifted apart when I'd gone off to college, I’d never forgotten how much he meant to me. All those nights he comforted me. I'd never forgotten one night in particular, the night when I’d acted like a fool. I shook my head quickly to stop the thoughts. I didn't need to go back to that place just yet or maybe never at all.

Chapter5

Foster

T-shirts, cups, and key chains were everywhere, and I was overwhelmed as I looked at all the different items I could get for Rosalie and Alice. I wanted to get something fun that they would love, but I didn't want it to be a tacky souvenir. I decided to go into a different store and see if there was something I could find there. I walked into the next store and realized it was a lingerie store.

"Good afternoon, sir. How may I help you?" A prim-looking older woman walked over to me. Her gray hair was pulled back tightly, and her eyes surveyed me with coldness. "Are you looking for something for your wife?"

"I'm not married." I gave her a casual smile, hoping I could get her to warm up.

"Oh, you're American, are you?"

"Yeah. I was looking for something for my sister and her best friend." I laughed. "I think this is probably not the store for me."

"Wait, are you sure? You Americans are rather..." She paused, then patted her lips with a napkin. "Well, how do I put this delicately?" I could tell she was battling between telling me to leave and trying to get herself a commission.

"I don't know. What are you trying to say?"
