"Oh, I've got my hair curly today, huh?"

"Yeah." I grinned.

"I'm naturally curly. I like to blow-dry it out for the guys because men seem to prefer straight hair. So when I go on dates or to speed dating events or whatever, I go straight. But on normal everyday occasions, I'm curly because keeping it straight is way too much work. Especially in this humidity."

"Trust me, I know what you mean." I touched my own long hair that was slightly wavy in the New York weather.

"So," she said, "how's everything going? How is your dishy roommate and your best friend's dishy fiancé?"

"Everyone's great," I said. "And I don't know that everyone's dishy." I laughed.

"Oh girl, Oliver and Foster." She licked her lip. "Both of them are so delicious that I would eat them off a platter." And she started laughing.

"I don't know what to say to that. I mean, they're definitely handsome men. Maybe I've just known them so long that I..."

"That you what? You don't see how handsome they are?" She shook her head at me like I was crazy. "Girl, please."

"Okay. I mean, Oliver's definitely hot, but he's my best friend's fiancé. So there's no way I would ever look at him like that. And while Foster is my best friend's brother, and..."

"And what?" she said. "Girl, I saw the look you were sneaking at him. You think he's fine."

"What? What are you talking about?"

"When I was getting my flirt on." She grinned. "You gave me daggers."

"What do you mean I gave you daggers?"

"If looks could kill, I would've been dead." She laughed. "Why do you think I didn't get his number?"

"Oh, you could have gotten his number. I wouldn't mind."

"You don't have to lie to me." She reached over and squeezed my hand. "Look, I know we just met, and we're just starting our friendship, but I am a girl's girl. I will not go after a man one of my girls is into."

"But I..."

"Alice..."

"Okay, fine. He’s hot. And I've got the hots for him, and I did something absolutely mortifying the other night."

"Oh my God. Spill the tea."

"I don't know," I said, shaking my head. I looked down at my phone. "I'm going to get a coffee. Do you want anything?"

"I’ve actually already ordered," she said. "But I'll be here waiting."

"Sounds good." I placed my phone down on the table and walked to the front to make an order.

"Hi, how can I help you?" a sweet young boy asked me.

"You don't even look old enough to work here," I said with a laugh.

"I'm eighteen, but I get that all the time." He grinned.

"Aw, that's awesome," I said. "Can I get a cappuccino, please? And maybe a biscotti?"

"Sure. And would you like that for here or to go?"

"For here. I'm sitting in that booth over there."
