"'Cause if you're into him, you know I don't go for the same men my friends are into. I'll back off?"

"Girl, you already backed off with Foster for me. You're not going to back off with Travis too."

"I will if you want him. I mean, is he the sexiest man I've ever seen?"

I stared at her for a couple of seconds and then giggled. "No, actually he's not."

"What, who have you seen that is sexier than that man?" she whispered under her breath.

"Foster," I said with a small smile, thinking about the way he looked in his tuxedo and the way he made me feel. No one had ever made me feel that special and warm before.

"Wow, you are totally into him."

"I'm not. I'm just connected to him, you know?"

"I get it," she said. "So I can make my move on Travis?"

"You sure can," I said. "And good luck."

"I'll probably need it," she said, running her hands through her blond hair. "He looks like he literally could get any and every woman on earth, and I probably number a billion in a long line of women who want to be with him. But I'll shoot my shot, and, hey, if I don't get a night with him, at least I might get a job."

"Exactly," I said, then I whispered under my breath, "Are we totally making a mistake applying to finance jobs when we know nothing about it?"

"Totally," she said, and we both laughed.

Chapter27

Foster

Iwatched as Alice spoke to Travis. I was feeling slightly annoyed at the amount of attention that she was giving him and the way that his eyes kept roving up and down her body. She was seated to his right, and Molly was seated to his left. But currently, Molly was talking to Rosalie. I stared at Alice, trying to gain her attention, but she was completely absorbed in her conversation with Travis. "So yeah, absolutely I'm really into mutual fonts," Alice said. And I felt my lips trembling.

Travis stared at her for a couple of seconds. "Mutual fonts?"

"Yeah, you know. What you invest in in the stock market," Alice said quickly. "I mean, I'm totally into BDs as well. I mean, CDs," she said quickly. "I used to want to be a comedian, but I guess now's not the time for joking."

"Yes," he said, "perhaps not tonight. So which are your favorite mutual funds?"

"Mutual funds? Oh yes." Alice blushed.

"Well, I said mutual fonts because that's what I call it with my friends. Right, Rosalie?"

"Sorry, what?" Rosalie blinks.

"Don't I tell you to invest in mutual fonts because I'm joking when I really mean mutual funds?" Rosalie just stared back at her in confusion. "Um, yeah?" Alice threw her head back and laughed. Her eyes flew to mine, and she gave me a quick smile.

"So Travis, are we on pace for having a record-breaking fundraiser this year?"

"I think we are," he said. "Thank you all for coming. Of course, I will formally thank you in about an hour when I give my speech, but I hope you're all having a good time so far."

"I'm having an amazing time," Molly said, purring up at him. Travis's eyes flew to her face, and they stared at each other for a couple of seconds. I looked back over at Alice to see if she was going to react to the fact that her friend was flirting with Travis. Her reaction would show me if she was interested in him or not.

"Rosalie, would you like to dance?" Oliver stood and held his hand out to my sister. "I thought you would never ask," she said with a small smile. I looked over at Alice who was sitting there, and I decided to ask her to dance as well, even though I didn't want to feel her that close to me. It just felt like it would be trouble. I stood and walked over to Alice. "Would you like to dance, Alice?"

"Sure," she said, smiling up at me. "Thank you for asking." Of course, she stood, and then she leaned forward and whispered in my ear. "Am I going to get a special Foster lap dance, or…?"

I shook my head and chuckled. "You wish."

"I really do," she said, laughing, her hazel eyes staring into mine intently.
