“Well, you checked out some good models then because you look good, girl.”

“Thank you,” she said, beaming at me.

The elevator pinged, and we walked into the lobby. I frowned when I saw Dominic and Travis standing there.

“Hey, chica,” Dominic said with a wide smile. His eyes then went past me to Poppy and widened. I could tell he liked what he saw.

“Hi,” he said. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Dominic.”

Poppy beamed up at him. “Hi, I’m Poppy. I’m Molly’s best friend.”

“Nice to meet you, Poppy. Did you know that’s my favorite flower?”

“Really?” she said, smiling.

“Yeah. I love poppies.” He grinned. “Maybe I’ll love you, too.”

She giggled nervously, and I pinched her.

“Ow!” She looked at me.

“Remember what I said, Poppy?” I said through gritted teeth.

She smiled back at Dominic. “So what are you two up to?”

“Travis and I were just about to go get some coffee, and then we have a conference call,” he said.

Travis looked at me with a warm smile. “Where are you two headed off to?”

“We’re just going shopping,” I said quickly.

“We’re going to get coffee first, though,” Poppy said, and I took a deep breath. “We could all go to the same coffee shop, maybe.”

She looked over at Dominic, and he grinned. “I would love that.”

I stared at Travis and shook my head quickly. He frowned slightly. “No,” I mouthed, hoping he would make some excuse so they wouldn’t join us.

“Sounds good.” Travis shrugged, and I let out a huge sigh. “Poppy, maybe we can get coffee closer to Rodeo Drive.”

“No,” she said quickly. “I think it’s fine getting coffee here.”

Dominic stepped by her side. “So, Poppy, what is it that you do for a living?”

“Right now I’m trying to figure out my life. But I study history and—”

“Oh, you’re the royalist,” Dominic said. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”

“You have?” Poppy looked surprised and glanced at Travis. “You were talking about me?”

Travis shook his head. “No, that would be your best friend, Molly.”

Poppy looked at me with narrowed eyes. “Why were you talking about me?”

“Oh, Dominic was just talking about how much he hated the monarchy and thought it should be abolished. And I was saying that my best friend feels quite the opposite.”

“Well, I wouldn’t say that,” she said quickly.

My jaw dropped. There was no way that I was witnessing Poppy lie about her thoughts on the monarchy, just so she could impress this guy…was there?
