“The deal that we have says we’re not going to sleep with anyone else.”

“Well, maybe we should call this deal off. Maybe I don’t really like this deal. Maybe—”

“Maybe what? You’re saying that now that you’ve met this idiot wannabe rock star, who probably uses foundation to make his skin look like it’s never seen the sun…”

I looked at him, and my lips twitched. Was this dude for real?

“What is so funny, Molly Malone?”

“You are. You’re acting absolutely ridiculous. I didn’t say that I was going to sleep with Storm. I was going to get a drink with him. I was going to get to know him. Hey, if he wanted to flirt with me, fine. We don’t have anything that prevents us from talking to other people.”

“The fact that we’ve been fucking and you went on the pill for me doesn’t mean anything?”

“It does mean something, but—”

“You don’t want to be with me like that. Well, maybe we should reevaluate the terms of this situation.”

“What do you mean reevaluate?”

He sighed. “This isn’t the place for us to have this talk, but I’m thinking that we need to figure out some rules here.”

“We already figured out rules. We said we were going to have a private and a business relationship. In the business world, we are purely business. In the private world, we hook up. The two don’t intertwine. Yeah, we both said we’re not going to sleep with anyone else. But you said you wanted to go on dates only for appearances. Well, maybe I want to go on dates, too, and maybe I’m looking for something real and I’m not going to close myself off to that possibility.”

“So you think Storm could be someone real?” he said, glaring at me.

“I don’t know, maybe.”

“Really?”

“I don’t know, Travis, and I don’t appreciate you making rude comments to me or treating me like your…” My lips were trembling.

“Like what, my assistant?”

“I was going to say your servant in front of other people. It’s demeaning and condescending. It makes me feel bad.”

“Oh, does Molly want a lollipop?” he said.

I glared at him, and he chuckled slightly. “Okay, my bad. That was pushing it a little far. But hey, maybe I don’t want to see you flirting with other men.”

“Why? Why would you care?”

“Maybe I like you, Molly. Have you ever thought about that?”

I stared at him for a couple of seconds, my heart racing. “What do you mean by that?” I said.

He shook his head. “We’ll talk about this later.”

Chapter 33

“Oh my gosh,”Poppy kept saying over and over again as we made our way into the hotel room.

“What is it? Did you and Brandon have an absolutely fantastic time tonight?”

“Do you not even say that man’s name to me,” she growled. “I never want to speak to him again. He’s such a jackass.”

“Oh no. Why? What happened? I thought you guys were really getting along. I saw you talking a lot, and he wasn’t talking at all when I met him.”

“Oh, girl. He was basically talking down to me, telling me all the things that I should think about when coming to New York City.”
