“Darling, I’m even naughtier,” she said, laughing at him.

“I’m tired,” I said abruptly, trying to end the conversation.

I didn’t want to act like I was pissed off, but I was super pissed off.

“Yeah, me too,” Poppy said, ever the best friend. “I really need to get going. Is it okay if we leave now, Travis?”

“Yeah, Travis,” I said. “You know, if you want to spend time with Pascal, I can just go with Poppy, and then I’ll meet you in the morning.”

I grabbed ahold of Poppy’s hand, and Travis looked at me for a couple of seconds. “Okay, bye,” I said, without waiting for him to say anything.

Poppy and I walked about three steps before Travis called out. “Wait, Molly, Poppy, I’ll be right there.”

He sounded annoyed. I looked over my shoulder, and his eyes were narrowed as he stared at me. “I’m sorry, Pascal, but I really do have to go now.”

“But, darling, if they want to go home, let them. I know a cute little bar around the corner. We can get some bourbon.”

“It’s okay,” he said. He kissed her on both cheeks again and then smiled widely. “We’ll catch up this weekend. You have a great evening, Pascal.”

“Fine,” she said, sighing. “You too. Don’t work too hard.”

“I always do, doll,” he said.

I watched as he walked over to us. He grabbed my elbow and looked down at me. “Where do you think you’re going, Molly?”

“Excuse me?” I said, glaring up at him.

“You know that we have a lot to do. You can’t just go off with Poppy.”

Poppy’s eyes widened as she looked at him and then at me. “It’s okay. She can stay over at my…”

“No. She knows she’s not staying anywhere tonight other than the hotel.”

Poppy looked at me and licked her lips. I could tell that she thought this conversation was salacious, but I was pissed.

“You can’t tell me what to do, Mr. Covington.”

“Oh, but I certainly can, Ms. Malone. We’re on a business trip, and while we’re on a business trip, all your hours are mine.”

“I think you’ll find that I work eight hours a day and…”

“I think you’ll find that you’re being paid for twenty-four hours a day of work,” he said, folding his arms.

Poppy giggled slightly. “Well, that’s my Uber,” she said, holding up the phone and walking to the curb. “I will see you guys later.”

“Poppy!” I yelled at her.

“Sorry, girl. You and your man got some things to discuss.”

“He’s not my—” I shouted after her, but she got in the car and slammed the door. I poked Travis in the chest. “You’re such a jackass.”

“What? What did I do?” he said, looking confused.

“You were rude to my best friend. We were going…”

“You were going to what? She was going home, and we were going back to the hotel.”

“Um, you could have gone with Pascal. I’m sure she would’ve loved to see your penthouse suite and make love to you and show you her Victoria’s Secret bra and panties and whatever else that ho wants to show you.”
