“Good,” she said. “I’d like that.”

He held his hands up in the air and shook his head. “I mean, I’m willing to introduce you, but if you get burned, don’t blame me.”

“I would never do that,” she said with a smile. “Right, Molly?”

I nodded. “She knows how to handle herself, kinda.” That wasn’t really true, and I knew that Travis knew that because I’d already told him that Poppy was not great with men, didn’t know how to flirt, and had never really been in a serious relationship, but I couldn’t tell Poppy that I had told Travis that she sucked with guys or she’d hate me.

“Okay. Well, good to know you’re a woman of the world, Poppy,” Travis said, smirking and then turning away. “I’m going to go and speak to my other guests. Is there anything else that you need before we land?”

“No thanks,” Poppy said with a smile, “but thank you.”

“You’re welcome. What about you, Molly?” he said, staring at my face with an inscrutable expression that I couldn’t read in his eyes.

“I’m fine, thanks,” I said softly.

“When we get to LA,” he said in a low voice, “we’ll go to Walgreens and pick up some tests.”

“Okay. Sure, but I don’t think we’ll know this soon.”

“I know,” he said, “but that doesn’t mean we can’t start trying to figure out what’s going on.”

“Okay.” I nodded. “Sure.”

He gave me a small smile and then turned around and walked over to Pascal and her friend. Poppy looked at me with wide eyes. “Wow, I know I’ve said this a million times, but he is seriously the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen in my life, and if his friends are even half as hot as him, then they can fuck me all night long and call me Sally. I don’t even care.”

“Oh, Poppy.” I laughed. “You’re too much.”

Chapter 27

“This is absolutely ridiculous,”I said as I poured the contents of the plastic bag onto the mattress.

Poppy stood next to the bed staring at me, her lips trembling. I could tell she was trying not to laugh.

“Well, you can’t say he doesn’t want to know,” Poppy said, giggling as we both stared down at the mattress.

There were at least thirty different pregnancy tests on the bed.

“I didn’t even know so many tests existed. This is really, really ridiculous.”

“Girl, he wants to know. You might be making him a dad for the first time in his life.”

“We don’t know if it’s the first time in his life,” I said, staring at her.

“Well, he doesn’t have any kids, right?”

“I guess.” I sighed. “It’s not like it’s even worth me taking a test right now because I’m not even going to know.”

“I know,” she said, “but you know men. They worry so easily. To be fair, I think he’s taking it considerably well.”

“What do you mean he’s taking it considerably well? How so?”

“Well, it’s not like he’s rushed you down to a clinic and said, ‘You need to take care of this right now, or let’s get the morning-after pill,’ or…”

“True,” I said, nodding. “I didn’t even think about that.”

“I mean, you can still get the morning-after pill if you’re worried.”

I stared at her for a couple of seconds and shook my head. “No, I mean, let’s just see what happens.”
