“Who the hell sent this? How do you even get mail on a bloody island?”

“It came in with one of the ships captains, Cole.”

“Oh, so that is just supposed to explain everything is it, Vince?”

“Colton calm down––“

“Nah, fuck that Creed. Who the hell is this woman?” The anger that laces Cole’s words is tangible.

“You need to listen to your brother––“Cole turns and glares daggers at Davina.

“This is an A and B conversation now C your way out of it Davina.” Ro and I both snort and try to mask our laughter but fail miserably when Davina turns her ice-cold gaze to us.

“You need to grow up Colton.”

“And you need to stop thinking you have any say in what the fuck I do Davina. I may have popped out of your messy cunt, but you are not my mother!” Cole screams at her; people begin to slow down around us and stare. Cole is vibrating with rage and if he doesn’t calm down his wolf will force a shift and he will attack his bio mom. I reach out and place a hand on his shoulder, he turns to me with his upper lip pulled back in a snarl. I see Creed out of the corner of my eye pressing in closer to me in case he attacks.

“Cole, ignore her. We have to figure out this letter before we leave here, I promise I will help you deal with all this rage toward herafterwe figure out what we’re going to do.” His eyes flicker back and forth between him his and his wolfs. he takes deep breaths and I know it is a struggle for him to gain complete control of their body, but he manages to do it after a couple minutes. I feel terrible that the three Reeves siblings are having to deal with all this crap with Davina, none of them have really had the time to properly process or figure out their emotions where she is concerned.

“She is to stay the hell away from me, from now on.” Cole grits out between clenched teeth, I squeeze his shoulder and nod reassuringly.

“For now, she needs to stay so she can fill us in on who the hell sent this letter.” Hearing the command in Creed’s voice sends shivers down my spine, he truly is an alpha in his own right. Creed motions for us to follow him inside, we all stand around in the kitchen. No one has uttered a word; I open my mouth to speak but snap it closed at the sound of the front door opening. Callie, Sky and Meg walk in, I smile and move toward them so I can pluck my son out of Megs hold. I clutch him against my chest and just breath him in, I feel Creed press up against my back and it takes everything inside me not to lean into him. He reaches around and ruffles our son’s hair; Harlem tries to bat his father’s hand away but fails.

“Daddy no, Gammy, dad ruined my hair.” Meg turns and glares halfheartedly at Creed, I try to fight my smile.

“Credence, don’t touch his hair he spent a long time doing it.”

“Oh no way!” Everyone turns toward my brother who has a shit eating grin on his face.

“What?” Creed snaps. Ro shakes his head and smiles as he reaches out and steals my son from my hold, I release a growl on annoyance but don’t fight him.

“I think my nephew has a crush on some young lady.” Harlem stills in his hold his chubby cheeks turn pink; my mouth drops open in horror. Creed and Cole begin to cackle like girls, so I ram my elbow into Creed’s stomach and relish in the grunt that tears from him.

“As amusing as this is we do not have time.” Everyone’s laughter dies off at the seriousness in Vince’s tone. “D, I think it’s time you told them the truth.” Davina being the emotionless statue that she is, gives nothing away, she moves her gaze across all of us before finally settling on me.

“Would you prefer your son be present or not for this?” I open my mouth to answer but Meg beats me to it.

“It’s okay, I’ll take him out.” Meg moves to grab Harlem from Ro, but Creed reaches out and grips his mother’s elbow stopping her.

“My mother stays and so does my son, just make sure to keep anything graphic to a minimal if the need arises.” It warms my heart to hear him say that, he has fallen into the role of being a father like a natural.

“Very well, Gabriella Wilder is someone very special to my kind. She is the last living decedent of the original bloodline.” Gasps ring out around the room.

“She’s the girl, isn’t she?” Ro asks Vince who nods, Davina spins toward her second and narrows her eyes. Whoops, cats out of the bag that Vince snitched and told us already.

“Clearly you all have been informed––“

“Some of us haven’t.” Meg interjects, Davina locks eyes with her and I expect to see annoyance or irritation but instead she shows empathy, Davina looks to Meg as an… equal, wow.

“Of course. Gabrielle also known as Belle is the last of her kind. Meaning that as vampires we cannot change anyone at will, that can only be done by one of the originals.”

“This sounds like The Vampire Diaries.” Davina ignores Callie’s jib and continues to explain to Meg who Belle is.

“Okay, so why would this girl send a note to Jess? If she is a vampire, why would she be willing to help a shifter?” For the first time since coming to this island Davina’s mask slips for us all to see–– fear, hope, longing, loyalty all shine in her eyes.

“Belle isn’t like us.”

“The hell is that supposed to mean Davina?”
