“Why do you speak like you worship her?”

“Because Skylar Cage is someone to be worshipped. She is a witch who grew up with no guidance, she is the human raised by wolves and lived to tell the tale. You sit here and pity her, but she doesn’t need it, Sky was never meant to live, she was hunted by the covens.”

“What?”

“Skylar Cage is the daughter of two of the most powerful coven leaders.” She could never remember her parents, we tried to find them but came up empty.

“How do you know all of this?”

“I’ve been around a long time; you tend to meet people and learn things.” His cryptic answer has me grinding my teeth.

He knows more than he is saying.

I Know Bex,

“Your wolf will be the one to do it.” I close the link between us and stare at him. “Your human side can’t stomach the thought of hurting her, when the time comes your wolf will take control. Don’t be too harsh on him, he will make the choice to save one and set the other free,”

“The fuck does that mean?” He smiles but it doesn’t reach his eyes, the notion puts me on edge.

“If I told you, it would change the course, my daughter has yet to learn that. She sees things and should keep them to herself, but she shares it, therefore changing every one’s paths. She will learn that less is more over time.” We sit here in silence for a long while lost in our thoughts, until a question burns on my tongue.

“You know where Sky is, don’t you?”

“Yes.” He answers without hesitation.

“Where is she?” I growl, he shakes his head. I grip my glass so tight that it shatters in my hand, amber liquid drizzles down the arm of the chair.

“You’re bleeding.” He grits out.

“So?” I snap.

“I’m a vampire you fool!”fuck!I Jump to my feet and head for the kitchen, I turn on the faucet and place my hand under the running water. I shut off the faucet then grab the dish towel and wrap it around my hand, my shifter healing will kick in and close the wound in a couple of minutes. Deciding not to tempt fate, I wait until the wound has healed before rejoining Alexander.

“I cannot tell you where she is.” I growl, my eyes flicker to my wolf’s but he isn’t fazed by the sight.

“Why?”

“Because things are set in motion that can’t be changed, hate me all you want, but just know that this is the only way to ensure my daughter’s safety.”

“She is mine to protect, not yours!” Anger clouds his features.

“Then start by protecting the life that grows within her!”

“I am!”

“You are not! You want her to act pretty and be seen, but not heard, she is going to die, and so will the child, if she doesn’t transition to a vampire!”

“How the fuck do you know that?”

“I have seen it; She doesn’t have a choice Cairo, she needs––.”

“Bullshit, you just want her to be the same as you!”

“You stupid fool, becoming a vampire is something I never wanted for her. Being immortal isn’t a gift. Living and knowing that your days are numbered makes you appreciate the life you are given, death is what makes life enjoyable, because you live for the moment. She will never get that when she transitions, her life will lose the joy she is used to.” I can hear the truth in his words and that pisses me off. “You may hate the idea of her changing, but it is her only option.” Instead of cursing him out and storming off, I decide maturity is my best bet.

“What happens to the baby if she changes?” His gaze locks onto mine.

“The child will live, but I don’t know if the change will affect its…race.” A whoosh of air escapes me.
