“Ro, you didn’t know––.” Cairo cuts Creed off.

“I should have fucking known! It was my job to protect her, I promised her I would find a way to stop this shit from happening and I failed!” The anguish and pain in his voice guts me. Z steps forward and stands in the center of the room with his gaze fixed on Ro.

“Skylar wouldn’t have changed a thing about her life, she always said she would never die laying down. Don’t you dare sit there and act like this isn’t the way she wants to go out, she is no fucking pussy!”

“Shut up!” Everyone stares at Callie. “All of you shut the fuck up, she isn’t dead, and we can find a way to stop this––we have to!” Vince moves toward Callie with his hands raised, he places them on her shoulders and bends, so they are eye level.

“As a young pup, you shifted because that is what nature intended for you. Sky is much the same, she doesn’t have a choice she has to expel this power inside her, if she doesn’t, she will become an unstoppable force that none of u will be able to contain. Sky knows this and is willing to sacrifice herself in order for us to live. How she knew this time was coming I don’t know, not even my brother knows the answer to that. Your mate is a selfless hero, and this is solely her decision, so what she is about to do, is honorable.”

Chapter thirty-two

Cairo

Isitonthefront porch and look up at the night Sky, I couldn’t bring myself to dine with the others. The vibe inside that house is dull and broken, it’s hard to sit in there without snapping, at them when they look at me with pity. I can take the hatred in Callie’s eyes when she looks at me, I can handle anger and rage, but pity and guilt for my situation is something I can’t stomach. I jump up and head inside when I hear Belle shout for me, I kick the door open and scan the area heaving, looking for the threat. I frown when I see her on the couch with Alexander and Callie sitting opposite them with a hopeful look, I look to the left to see the rest of the guys standing there smiling.

“What’s going on?” Belle turns to Alex and nods her head encouraging him to speak.

If he doesn’t speak soon, I’ll tear his throat out.

Our mate won’t like that Bex.

We can make it up to her.

I fight the smile that wants to break free, Bex can’t stand Alexander and I’m glad we are both on the same page because I don’t trust the old fucker.

“I have a way, with the help of Belle to send you and California to Sky.”

“How?” I ask, I hate that hope blossoms inside me.

“It would only be in a dream like state, almost like Astro projecting, Sky will be able to see and hear and vice versa. You won’t have long though, and this will be the only time it can happen.” I narrow my eyes.

“Why?” I snap, he sighs and turns his gaze to Callie.

“Because Sky has agreed to use her power to funnel you to her, but only this once. She doesn’t have much control over her power at the moment, this is risky and if it goes wrong––.” Callie cuts him off. A growl comes from the kitchen, and I turn to see its Cass, why the fuck is he growling?

“Do it!”

“I’m in.” I answer as I take a seat next to Callie, Belle’s eyes move to me, and I smile reassuringly.

“I’ve never done this before––.” I cut her off.

“I trust you beauty, you’re stronger than you think babe, you got this.” She beams at me, and I shoot her a wink. Callie tenses when I drop down next to her, I can take her looks and snide remarks but even for me being this close to her is––uncomfortable.

“Okay, I’m going to channel Belle as my anchor, the two of you need to join hands.” Before I move and inch, I glare at him and ask.

“Why are you doing this? You don’t like me, and you don’t give a shit about Callie, so why?” He smirks.

“Because Gabrielle asked me if I could help in some way to give you both a chance at a proper goodbye, instead of that last phone call.” Belle has a shade of red that coats her cheeks as she drops her gaze, I stand quickly and make my way to her clasping her face in my hands. I smile down at her and place a chaste kiss against her lips, ignoring the groans coming from the kitchen.

“Thank you.” I whisper low enough for only her to hear, she smiles and shoos me back to my seat. Callie and I link hands––awkward is an understatement, but we grit our way through it. We close our eyes as Alexander instructs and wait for something to happen.

“Don’t you have to chant or something?” I groan internally at Cole’s dumbass question.

“No, you fool, this isn’t a soap opera––.” The rest of Vince’s reply is cut off as I begin to feel like I’m falling.

I snap my eyes open and turn my head to the side to gag, it felt like I was in a dryer spinning around for hours. Nothing comes up but I continue to gag, I hear Callie beside me doing the same. When I finally get myself under control, I turn ready to lose my shit at Alexander but snap my mouth closed when I see a smiling Sky sitting on a couch. I jump to my feet and rush to her; she leaps into my arms, and I crush her against me. Tears cloud my vision as I inhale her scent, I feel her tears against my neck, I grip her hair and hold her closer.

“Sky––.”
