William, unsure if he should speak, lit his own. He wordlessly smoked for a few moments before he broke the silence. “I have to agree.” He focused his attention on Noah as he continued. “We don’t know who might be working with him now and with eyes on him, we will be able to take them all out.”

“So, all three of you are in agreement on this?” I pursed my lips, shaking my head. I knew they were all right with their thinking, but it did not mean I wanted to him live any longer than he had to. “Liam, he fucking shot you. He killed my brother. He hurt everyone!”

He sighed. “V, you know I want him dead much as you, but Noah’s right.”

“Okay fine. As much as I don’t want to do it this way, I’ll accept it.” Pinning my cigarette between my fingers, I pointed at Noah. “That means that you better be attached to my woman’s side and watch her at all times when she is outside the house, no matter what. I don’t give a fuck if she’s on this porch or walking through the gardens. You better be there.”

“I understand, boss.”

“Felipe, being this close to us terrifies me and not because I’m scared of him. I’m not okay with him being so close to her that I—” I took a deep breath, remembering Isabelle covered in blood.

“It’s going to be okay.” Joseph took a step toward me, lifting his hand.

“I don’t want Isabelle to know about this yet.” I ordered. “When she’s coming and going from the house, she’ll look around, watching her surroundings, and it will tip him off.”

That evening, I was soaking in a bubble bath after making sure the water was not too hot. Though I was inexperienced with being pregnant, I wanted to be careful just in case I was no longer supposed to take scalding hot baths or get in jacuzzis. Valentino ambled into the room. He leaned on the counter with his hands in his pockets, staring at the frosted glass of the window above my head.

“You look thoughtful.”

“How so?”

“Well,” I giggled, “for starters, you’re staring at a window with no way to truly see out and it’s dark, so I know you’re not watching someone.”

He took a deep breath, lowering his gaze on mine. “I need to tell you something.”

Concerned, I sat up straight. Eyes wide, I gripped the edge. Twisting to look at him. “Okay?”

Wetting his lips with his tongue, he meandered over and sat on the edge of the tub. His finger wound around a loose strand from my messy bun. “Noah is going to be watching you more closely for a bit. I need you to respect this. I know you will, but I just don’t want you to question if he follows you on the grounds anymore. Am I clear?”

I leaned back, examining his expression. Paranoia soon filled me to my core. I often wandered the grounds alone, but once Noah was hired, he followed me from a safe distance. Now, closely?I was unsure what it meant.

“I just need you to trust me right now.”

“I always trust you.”

“Good.”

I always agreed with him, although I could not help but to be curious…and scared, if I was being honest. Instead of letting him know how I truly felt, I nodded and smiled, respecting his wishes. I knew he had my best interests in mind and that he would tell me everything when the time came. That offered me some comfort. I leaned back in the water and closed my eyes.

Valentino disappeared into the closet. Moments later, he returned. Leaning over, he placed a kiss on my forehead. “I’ll give you a better kiss when you come to bed.”

When I strolled into the bedroom, Valentino was watching the news. This was a common nightly occurrence. Normally, he would talk as he was watching, or acknowledge me, but his eyes were fixated on the screen.

I crept over to the bed, trying not to disturb him, but froze and spun toward the television at the mention of my name. The older, greying man at the news desk had a photo of Valentino and me in the display's corner. The red, scrolling ribbon at the bottom of the screen read:

BREAKING NEWS: BILLIONAIRE VALENTINO’S GRECO’S FIANCÉE HOSPITALIZED

“Turn it up a bit.” I requested, just as it switched to a live feed outside a nearby hospital.

And what we know right now is she has suffered a miscarriage and is recovering in the hospital behind me. We have only had verbal confirmation from a family rep who said there was a domestic dispute over another woman. We will update you on any furth—

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Valentino shot up off the bed, clenching his fists. “Who the fuck even reports such shit?!” He yanked his phone off the nightstand and texted furiously. “What unprofessional assholes!”

My mouth was agape as I sat and stared at the television. How did anyone know I was pregnant? A miscarriage? Dispute? I didn’t even know the news reported in depth details, whether true or not. What the hell was going on?!

I spun to him, but he was firing off in an irritated tone at whoever was on the other end of the call. He hung up and tossed his phone on the bed before marching to the closet. My gaze averted to the floor, and I sighed. This was not good. A few minutes later, he reappeared wearing jeans and pulling a t-shirt over his head.

“Where are you going?”
