“Do I even want to know?” I crossed my arms, raising my eyebrows.

“Please, trust me.”

I nodded and deeply inhaled. “Okay, but whatever you’re doing, please hurry. He wants you close by me at all times.”

He shook his finger at me. “Then don’t go outside until I’m back.” His eyes widened “Please, I mean.”

I nodded. He took a few steps backwards, then turned to jog out of the room.

Okay, we will be there.

I hung up the phone and glanced up from my desk as Isabelle entered the office. She smiled as she approached and sat in my lap sideways, wrapping her arms around my neck. I leaned forward, pressing my lips to hers.

“Good morning.”

“Hi, sexy.” She placed another kiss on my lips, then sauntered around to the other side of my desk, sitting in the chair. “Where will we be and when?” She curiously arched an eyebrow at me.

“What?” I cocked a brow back at her. “Oh! The phone call. We have changed the venue for the masquerade last minute to the other hotel.” I opened my laptop to my emails.

“Okay.” She averted her gaze.

I sensed disappointment in her voice. Leaning back, I supplied her with my undivided attention. “Bella.”

“I’m not weird, I swear.” She lifted her hands. “It’s just something I’m having to get used to being on the other side of.”

I chuckled. “Well, no, because you and I aren’t bringing anyone home.”

She rolled her eyes. “I know, but I’ve never had to pay for sex, so it’s just strange to me when I really think about it.” She sighed, stroking her forearm up and down. “But I know it’s for people who don’t want attachments or would otherwise have their names dragged through the mud.” Shrugging, she sarcastically smiled. “And I know how that is at the moment, as my name is being dragged through everything.”

“Well, Lindsay handled it.” I glanced at my laptop.

“Good. She showed me the statement.”

Multitasking, I opened an email from a realtor in Tonga, South Pacific. “Yes, she told me you approved, so I told her to run with it.” Silently, I read the brief letter about the island I made an offer on. I lifted my gaze. “I’ll be ready to go in a moment if you want to go get Joseph and Noah.”

“Um.”

My gaze snapped up as I pressedsend. “Um?”

“Noah had to go take care of something, so we might have to go without him.”

Lifting my hand, I stroked my beard. “Why wasn’t I informed of this?”

“It was kind of important, but he’ll be back soon. I think maybe something about his mother.”

Unsure if I believed her or not, I let it go. She never lied to me, but something felt shady. Noah might have lied to her to take care of something involving Felipe. I hoped he would inform me when he returned. “Well, if you’re okay with it, that’s good enough for me, then.”

Posture instantly relaxing, she grinned as she sashayed to the door. I grabbed my things and followed.

“Wow, I haven’t seen you drive in a while.” She giggled as we trailed Joseph down the driveway.

“Well, I wanted to have as much alone time with you as I could.” Resting my hand on her upper thigh, I gave her a few soft squeezes. My hand inched further up her leg.

“Just so you could molest me, huh?” She put her hand on top of mine and curled her fingers under.

The corner of my lip twisted into a smirk. “Maybe.”

Before we pulled out of the driveway, I waited for Joseph to signal to me that the coast was clear as he drove out first. Once out of the neighborhood, I continued to pay attention to our surroundings and mirrors in case Felipe snuck up on us at any point on our way to the city.
