She sat back, arching her brow. “Are you okay?”

I bowed my head and placed my hands on hers. “I’m fine, amore.”

She laid her head on my arm. I rested mine on top of hers and turned my attention back to Noah. Deeply inhaling, I opened my mouth to speak but before I could say another word, the wheels touched down on the runway and all of us fell silent.

I stood in our private terminal at the airport, staring out the window while the plane was being refueled and prepared for the next flight. I glanced down at my side and inched up the corner of my shirt, assessing the damage that had been done to me in the rescue. The girls were able to roam freely in this area, so they had disappeared into a nearby bathroom to freshen up.

Spacing out, I tilted my head, hypnotized by the rain drops that had begun to roll down the glass. It did not rain much in Los Angeles, but when it did, it seemed to be every time I traveled through here. My mind began to shift to the information I had been overloaded with on the flight. I brought my hand to my mouth, tapping it with my fist.

“I know that was a lot to take in.” Noah spoke behind me.

Though startled, I did not jump. Instead, I studied his reflection in the window. “It was.”

He slid his hands in his pockets as he stepped next to me. Leaning sideways against the large window. The corner of his lips twisted up. “I’m pretty much the only sane family she has left.”

I crossed my arms over my chest and turned toward him. “Are you really though?”

“I know you don’t trust me,” he sighed, running his fingers through his hair, “but I swear on my life I would never hurt Isabelle.”

“Are you trying to convince me you’d never hurt my fiancée,” I cocked a brow, “or are you trying to convince me you’d never hurt my sister if I allowed that to continue?”

“That was pretty shocking, wasn’t it?” Tanya finished dressing Aston after changing him and picked him up off the table.

Still shocked, I did not know how to respond. I was still processing everything myself. “I never expected it.” I put my handbag down on the countertop and dug through it, pulling out my eye drops. “It’s a lot to take in.”

“I bet Valentino is going crazy in his brain right now trying to digest everything.” Tanya giggled. “I’m sorry to laugh but the look on his face was indescribable.”

“I know.” I leaned my head back, widening my eye for the second drop. “I thought he was going to throw him out a window for a second.”

Laura waltzed out of the bathroom stall adjusting her outfit before she placed her bag next to the sink and began to wash her hands. She did not say a word as Tanya and I exchanged a lot of chatter, trying to make the best of this trip. We all knew when we arrived in Tonga that everything would be serious again.

“Are you okay?” Tanya finally asked Laura.

She huffed, yanking paper towels from the dispenser on the wall. “Of course, I would have to like him of all people.” Furiously, she dried her hands then tossed the wad of paper towels into the silver, cylinder garbage can. She rested her palm to her forehead and started to mumble in Italian to herself. She reminded me so much of Valentino, I found myself about to laugh when she turned to me and placed her hands on my arms, staring into my gaze. “I swear I won’t touch him again, I just—”

Withdrawing one of my hands, I rested it on top of hers. “Laura, I’m not bothered by you and Noah at all. I actually think it’s awesome.”

“I know you do but,” she rolled her eyes as she inspected her face in the mirror, “my brother is just never going to accept that I’m an adult because when I date, it makes both of my brothers turn into mean trolls.”

“Big surprise there.” Tanya snorted.

“Exactly!” Laura pointed at Tanya. “Valentino will kill Noah if he catches us kissing again.”

“Be glad he didn’t walk in on you when—”

“Are you girls almost ready?” Noah called out from open entrance of the bathroom around the blind corner.

The three of us exchanged the same panicked appearance. I leaned forward. “Do you think he heard us?”

Laura snickered. “God, I hope not.”

We rounded the corner and exited the bathroom. Noah was standing, arms folded, rolling his bottom lip between his teeth. “We need you to board the plane as soon as possible.” He tapped on his watch. “We’re leaving in fifteen minutes.”

The three of us nodded simultaneously then hustled toward the plane. I stopped when I saw Valentino was thumbing through his phone near the exit. I waved the girls on and veered toward him instead. The moment I got close enough, he reached for my hand and pulled me into his body. He winced, just like he had on the plane when I came into contact with him.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, lacing my fingers together. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

He nodded once before resting his forehead against mine. “Noah and I discussed the plan for once we’re in Tonga.”
