“Okay.”

“I want you girls to listen to him when we’re back on the plane, okay?”

“Okay.” I bowed my head then spun to walk away, but he wrenched me back against his body. Wrapping his arms around my waist tightly, he gazed down into my eyes with a mischievous grin. “And when he’s done talking to you, we need to talk.”

“Am I in trouble?” After all that had happened, I was a bit nervous that Valentino would suddenly realize that I was not worth the suffering. I swallowed the lump in my throat.

He chuckled. “Maybe a little. He took my hand and spun me away, guiding me toward the plane. He let go and tapped me on the bottom with his fingers. “I guess you’ll see once you’re in the back room on the plane.”

Just the kind of trouble I welcomed.

After one more short layover in Fiji, we arrive to our Tonga island by boat. The multi-level, contemporary mansion sat nestled in the middle of the heavenly island vegetation. Many windows replaced the walls, boasting panoramic picturesque views of the clear cyan ocean and stunning natural landscape. Each side of the home offered a different spectacular view. It was a shame we might never get to enjoy the place.

After getting our belongings settled in our room, I stopped and watched Isabelle outside on the back terrace. She was leaning against the railing, peering out at the water. A salty breeze blew through her hair. She raked her fingers through it removing the long strands off her face.

Sliding my hands into my pockets, I took a deep breath, observing the beauty I would never get enough of. My stunning, pregnant fiancée looked so peaceful, and I knew she was soaking in every positive thing about this experience. Even in the darkest hours, Isabelle always found some sort of light.

KNOCK. KNOCK.

I turned toward the door. “Come in!”

William strode into the bedroom, coming to a stop in the middle of the room. In my peripheral vision, he matched my stance, putting his hands in his pockets as well. “Are you busy?”

Tearing my gaze away from Isabelle, I placed one of my bags on the bed and began to dig through it. “No but I hope we’re going to be ready for this one.”

“Well,” he groaned, “we can’t do anything if you don’t get medical help for that shit on your side.”

My adrenaline had been masking the pain at this point. I only thought about it when Isabelle hugged me or leaned on me.

He reached for a small statue on an end table and twisted it around, fidgeting. “I know we don’t exactly—”

The sliding glass door opened, and Isabelle waltzed into the room with a quizzical expression on her face. William and I exchanged a puzzled glimpse of one another. Before we could speak, she turned to disappear into the bathroom for a short period of time before she emerged again.

“What’s wrong?” I stroked my scruffy beard that had grown a little longer.

“I just wish,” she threw herself onto the bed on her side, “that we were here under different circumstances.”

“I know.” I nodded. “Me too.”

“This was such a great surprise, and we don’t even get to keep it.” A pout emerged on her lips.

“I’m sure you guys will find a better one.” William suggested, trying to offer her some form of encouragement. “Fiji isn’t far from here and—”

“It’s not about that.” Isabelle sat up then leaned back, propping up on her palms.

William crossed his arms over his chest. “What do you mean?”

“We own this property, right?” She glanced at me.

I offered a small nod. “It’s yours, but yes.”

With her cheeks puffed, she blew out a puff of air. “People usually fight for their land and I don’t see why we can’t do the same.”

“Are you forgetting the person who sold him this property is related to you and Satan?” William rolled his eyes, annoyed then fell back into a chair next to the window.

“Plus,” I sat next to her on the bed, “I’ve been dealing with a fake realtor so who knows if this is even a legal sale. We might not even be here legally.” I gripped her thigh, offering her a couple of reassuring squeezes. “We’ll buy a better island, bella.”

“Can I come in?” Noah poked this head through the already open door.
