“Hmm?” I hummed in a trance.

Suddenly he pulled away, sliding his hands into his pockets as he took a few steps back. I yearned for him to close the gap between our bodies. Now, I was confused if I was scared to be here or beginning to lose whatever game he was playing.

“We should go inside,” he urged as he peered over my shoulder at someone.

“Actually,” I interjected, “I would like to stay out here for a moment if you don't mind.” I wanted time alone.

“Sure,” he nodded agreeably. “When you're ready just come back inside, but I will leave someone to help you, should you require assistance.”

“Okay,” I mumbled, averting my eyes to several other blurry figures nearby.

“What's wrong?” he inquired as he brought his hand to his chin in thought.

“Can you please have your security detail go inside as well?” I requested as nicely as my tone would allow.

“I'm sorry I cannot do that,” he declined, “but I will have them hang back a little more.”

I nodded, sighing, “Fine.”

I watched as he walked away, joining two of the four men. They disappeared as they rounded a corner in the distance, and I finally felt like I could breathe. I untied my veil, tossing it on the ground then crumbled next to it. Uncertainty washed over me as I placed my hand on my chest, discovering my rapid heartbeat. Lying back in the grass next to the path, I looked toward the sky, processing the occurrences this morning.

He had flirted with me, but he also stopped himself before he took it to the point of no return. Why had he not tried to sleep with me? Why was he acting strange with me? It was not that I wanted him to, but he had turned my brain to mush moments ago with his scent, his words, and his touch.

I sorted some things in my mind as I closed my eyes, soaking in the rays of sunlight. It was clear that this mysterious man had some form of power over me. I did not mean some silly contract. Could it be that he was beginning to have a hold on me? Why did I feel somewhat connected to him? Was he possibly someone I knew?

Rising to my feet, I began to sway in the breeze, humming my favorite song as a small gust of wind blew passed me. For a moment I actually felt free. I twirled around slowly, absorbing every part of the garden. This place was purely magnificent which made me wish even more that I were here under other circumstances.

I strode into my house, sprinting up the stairs. The moment I entered my bedroom, I immediately closed the doors behind me then tossed my jacket onto the bed. I paced my room, running my fingers through my hair in frustration before my eyes focused on the window. It overlooked the garden where I had left her, so I automatically gravitated to it.

Leaning on the wall by the window, I watched as she lied down in the grass. I observed her, wondering what was on her mind. She looked so peaceful without her covering on. Just as I began to lose myself in my own tormenting thoughts, she stood. Turning circles, she watched the sky. I enjoyed seeing her this way.

I felt like a jerk for having to keep her eyes constantly concealed, but I could not risk the price she would pay if she saw me. I was not worried about myself. I was only worried about her. She seemed so carefree out there, dancing while enjoying her time alone in the fresh air. Just as I found myself becoming entranced in her movements, there was a knock on the bedroom door. I was pulled away from the spell she had placed on me.

“Come in!”

William casually strolled in, then leaned on the wall next to me. “What are you loo--,” he asked, his sentence falling short as his eyes discovered her. He chuckled, “Oh.”

I glanced at him swiftly turning my attention back to her, “Tell me something, please.”

He covered his mouth with his hand to hide a smile. “What's that?”

I snapped my head toward him, glaring, before marching toward the middle of my room. I paced, trying to talk myself out of what was clearly happening. I turned back to face William, realizing that he was laughing at me again.

“What if I just let her walk around with nothing?” I called out, walking into my closet to change.

He yelled in return, “I mean, isn't that what they've all done before her?”

I poked my head out of the closet door, peering into the bedroom at him. “What do you mean?” I asked before disappearing into the closet once again.

I rapidly changed then walked out while fastening my jeans. I fell lazily into a chair across from my bed. He sat on the middle of my bed, leaning back, propping on his elbows.

“The girls before her,” he snorted. “They walked around naked.”

“In one room,” I corrected, “not around the house.” Sighing, I processed what he had meant, before continuing, “They were not naked,” I reminded. “They never ever stayed over. They--.”

“Yes yes,” he interrupted, “Wore the infamous Valentino Greco blindfold.” He drew an arch shape in the air with his hands.

“Liam,” I groaned, “I don't trust myself with her.” I buried my head in my hand, confessing to him.
