“Liam and I told you all that we could,” I apologized. “Any more information would have also put you in danger.”

She folded her arms over her chest, glaring at me.

“Her being sold to me was the only way that I could get close enough to her without raising suspicion,” I continued. “The contract is a facade to keep her safe. I would never take her body and make it mine without her asking me to.”

“Well I got blamed for it!” she blustered. “She thinks I tricked her.”

Tanya and I had something in common and that was that we both cared for Isabelle and her well-being, so I understand why Tanya was upset. She had possibly just lost her best friend because of me.

She flinched, grabbing her stomach, before she sprinted into my office bathroom, slamming the door. I cleared my throat, standing. I stepped over to the minifridge, grabbing her a bottle of water. Waiting by the door, she came out a few moments after the water turned off. I held the bottle out for her. Hesitantly, she took it and drank a little before she noticed me staring at her intensely. I knew she needed her friend.

“How far along?” I murmured.

A tear rolled down her cheek as she attempted to avoid eye contact. “What?” she sighed.

“Does Liam know?”

She shook her head as I pulled a tissue out of a box , handing it to her. She gently took it from my fingers, wiping her tears. I paced my office, uncomfortable around crying women.

“Not yet. I'm scared he'll walk away from me,” she sobbed.

Tanya only needed Isabelle right now. I had taken her friend from her for the time being so unfortunately, I was faced with the task of replacing her at the moment. I sauntered over to Tanya, wrapping her in my arms thinking a hug may help, even if a little. William was my closest friend, so this baby would more than likely be my godchild.

“He's not going to walk away from you,” I reassured her, awkwardly patting her on the head.

With her face buried in my chest she sniffled, “I hope you're right.”

I gently peeled her away from me with both hands on her arms. “He's crazy about you, trust me,” I affirmed.

She took a few steps back from me, postulating, “Just like you’re crazy about my best friend.”

I shook my head, biting my bottom lip for a moment. “I'm not doing this with you,” I scoffed.

She rolled her eyes, smirking.

“Shit is so fucked up right now,” I confessed, “and I need time to figure everything out.”

She nodded as she walked to the door but turned around when she touched the doorknob. “Please don't destroy her,” she sniffled, fighting back tears again. “She already hates me and though the situation is so messed up right now, you're all she has.” She paused, looking down as she rubbed her stomach in a circle. “I'm going to tell him soon but give me a few days.”

“Fine,” I mumbled.

Without saying another word, she exited, closing the door behind her. I gave her time to leave the building so I would not be faced with awkward silence in the elevator. Once I knew she was gone, my bodyguards and I headed down to the parking garage where my driver stood waiting to take us to my house.

That night, I could not get her off my mind, so I spent the night tossing and turning in my bed. It was so strange not having her under the same roof as me now. I was worried about her safety even though she had top notch security features and staff at the penthouse. Rolling over, I grabbed my phone off the nightstand, dialing her number then placed the phone to my ear.

Well hello there, Sir, she playfully greeted me.

I warned you about calling me that, I groaned.

She giggled quietly.

Are you in bed?

She sighed,I am, but I can't go to sleep.

Me either, I confessed.Admit that you miss me Isabelle.

She snickered,And where will that get me?
