“Hmm,” she hummed.

“I’m sure you have a lot of questions,” I whispered. “I know I do.”

I saw her reflection in the window as a single tear rolled down her cheek.I hated seeing her this way. I could not stand crying. In the past it was annoying, and I had no sympathy, but with her it was different. In fact, everything was different with her.I was a shell of the man until she came into my life.

She exhaled slowly before she turned to face me. I curled my lips in a slight smile as I wiped a tear from her cheek with my thumb. I wrapped my arms around her, hugging her tightly against my body.

“If you are not ready to talk,” I surmised, “we can talk tomorrow, or something.”

I was trying to let her control the conversation even though I was dying to know details. In reality, this was a dangerous situation. She held the key to the answers I needed. Soon, I would have to notify my team back home, letting them know to watch their backs extra closely. I could not quite grasp yet, how my decision to get Isabelle out of New York would come back to haunt us later on.

William was there living in the middle of it all. If anything happened to him as a result of this new discovery, I would never forgive myself. He did not want to do this anyway. He warned me something was not right with Felipe a long time ago, but I did not listen to him.

He never quite understood why a drug lord would ask a billionaire to watch hisdaughter. At the time, I thought maybe he saw my money as a bargaining chip, and he paid me in legitimate cash to watch her. He did seem dishonest in many ways, but it was in his nature. At the time, I told William and the others that it was just the default personality of a drug lord.

Isabelle took another deep breath, craning her neck while peering behind me. I pivoted to see my security team standing in the room listening intently.I held my hand up, dismissing them.

“I will notify you guys of any necessary information,” I informed, “but please give us time alone right now.”

Joseph nodded, ushering the rest out of the room, then disappeared behind them.

“Do you want to sit down?” I suggested.

She nodded, frowning, still fighting back tears as she got ready to sit on a nearby couch. I shook my head, holding my hand out for hers. She placed her palm in mine, smiling shyly.

“Come on,” I lightly tugged on her, putting her in front of me.

Moving my hands to her bottom, I guided her to my bedroom, closing the door behind us, leaving us completely alone. She trudged to the bed, sighing. I crawled onto the bed, lying next to her on my side. Resting my hand on her hip, I carefully watched her, trying to read her emotions at the moment. She was no longer crying, but she was still visibly upset as she laid silently for a few moments then slowly sat up.

“I suppose I should tell you what happened,” she sighed, leaning forward as she buried her face in her hands, “but I want to know how it got to this, first.”

I nodded, getting ready to speak, but she continued.

“On the way to the airport,” she interjected, “William told me that I was just a business transaction.”

I gulped as anger began to rise within me. That was very unlike William to just blurt something out like that, but it was the truth in the beginning. I would still have to speak with him about his choice to say something to her without my permission. Isabelle folded her arms over her chest then turned to face me, glaring into my eyes.

“So yes, I need some answers now.”

“Then, do you want to go first, or would you like me to?”I offered.

“Why don't you?” she snapped.

She stood, beginning to roam the room as I remained on the bed. I told her every detail I could recall about Spain and the meeting with the man I thought was her father. She glanced over at me a few times, but she continued pacing.

“So, when I saw your photo,” I continued, “I really didn't have a problem watching you.”

She paused, not making eye contact with me. Her eyes lowered to the floor as she whispered, “Why me though?”

“Are you kidding?” I smirked, “You are an absolute perfect piece of priceless art, Isabelle.”

She darted her eyes toward me, blushing.

“Your former boss knows your fath…um, uncle as well.” I cleared my throat, concluding, “Jesse works for a sex trafficking ring and I know he has ties to your uncle through that.”

“Damnit, are you serious?!”

Nodding, I added, “Jesse planned to sell you and I think Felipe was--.”
