“Do you have your phone,” he ignored my question as he continued to watch inside. “I need to use another phone.”

I nodded as he glanced toward me for a quick second.

“Give it to me,” he commanded, holding his hand out.

I pulled it out of my bra, then laid it in his palm.

“Unlock it,” he huffed, as he watched the inside of the penthouse intently.

I did as he said and passed it to him once again. He swiped the screen then tapped on it before placing it to his ear. Watching inside, I began to lose control of my emotions as I sobbed, watching her struggle getting weaker. Once again, I tried to run for her, but Joseph caught me, pulling me to the floor and pinning me against his body.

“Joseph they're taking her away,” I cried, staring inside through my tears. “Oh God, Joseph, help!”

“Shhh,” he covered my mouth.

Wiggling out of his grip, I slowly rose up peering through the chairs again to get a slightly better view. Tanya was no longer visible, but I saw the back of a tall man with lengthy, dark hair wearing a long, black coat. He was puffing on a cigar. I knew that stance anywhere. It was my uncle Felipe.

As he stood in the middle of the living room, he looked all around while his men searched every room. I began to panic as I realized Joseph was speaking Italian now. He hung up the phone then gripped my elbow tightly, causing my body to jump.

“I need to go after her,” he declared, visibly bothered. “I need you to stay right here. Do not move and stay hidden!”

I started to shake my head quickly, frightened. He placed his hand on my knee. I rocked up, crouching as I darted my eyes back and forth between him and Felipe.

“Please don’t leave me!” I quietly wept.

“Miss,” he sighed, “I mean Isabelle, please take a deep breath.”

I tried obeying him, taking unsteady, shallow breaths as I wiped tears on my arms.

“I need to save your friend,” he whispered. “You know how your uncle is.”

I nodded, knowing that if he did not go help Tanya, she would be dead soon.

“Please for your friend's sake, let me do this,” he pleaded, trying his best to comfort me.

I had been squatting for so long that my knees started to shake, giving way. Collapsing onto the hard surface of the terrace floor, I caused a thud when I bumped a chair. Felipe speedily veered to the door, marching our way. Joseph mumbled something under his breath, but I did not hear him.

“What?” I murmured.

“Crawl behind the shrub box now!”

I quickly made my body as small as possible as I ducked behind the box holding a large bush of some sort, just as I heard the door slide open and my uncle's voice. Joseph stood with his palms facing Felipe, stepping sideways into his view.

“Where is she?!” my uncle shouted at Joseph.

“She's not here,” Joseph snapped. “It’s only me.”

“Why are you out here alone?” Felipe interrogated.

Joseph, swift to react, contended, “I came out to secure the penthouse and wanted to smoke.”

“Well you're coming with me now, asshole!” Felipe interjected.

“I don't think so!” Joseph gritted his teeth.

I buried my mouth into my hands as I listened to a scuffle. After a few minutes, I heard glass shatter. Peeking out from behind the shrub, I made myself as tiny as possible. Joseph and Felipe were rolling around on the floor inside the living room while I crouched down outside, helpless.

I could not disobey and run in to help him free himself of Felipe. He was trained for this. I was not. I realized I did not have my phone so I could not call for help. Glancing over near the broken window, I spotted it, laying on the floor, in the middle of the glass. The only way I could get to it would be to crawl through the shards on my hands and knees because I could not risk being seen.
