“I’ll send Mariano out to get some groceries.” I sat up, rubbing my palm down her smooth, naked leg. “In the meantime, we should go get some dinner.” I held my hand out.

She put her palm in mine. “Our stuff is still downstairs.”

“Let’s go shower and I’ll go get it after.”

I positioned her in front of me, watching her ass as she sashayed into the bathroom. She drove me crazy. I couldn’t take my eyes off her whenever I was around her, and now, I didn’t have to pretend I was watching something else. It was just us in the privacy of one of my homes, miles away from anyone who’d give a shit.

I opened the glass shower door, turning on the hot water. Thankfully, Dimitri had the home fully furnished to my liking and stocked with my needs before my release. As hard as he was for others to deal with, he always read my mind, and I appreciated his hard work.

“This is a really bright and big bathroom.” Elizabeth commented in awe as she rotated a circle in the middle of the room on the abstract blue, white, and gold round rug.

Striding to the linen closet, I took two towels and hung them on a rack outside the shower. “Itispretty. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw the pictures.”

Dimitri had shown me photos when he came to visit me in prison, but they didn’t do the bathroom justice. Contemporary, like the rest of the mansion, the dark grey cabinets offered a delightful contrast to the white and grey marble countertop with matching floors. The brushed gold faucets and fixtures gave me the comfort of my home. I’d grown to not be much of a fan of silver after spending time behind metal bars.

I took her hand in mine once again, pulling her tight against me. She enveloped her arms around my shoulder, lacing her fingers together behind my neck. Lips pressed to hers, I walked her backwards into the shower room. Pinning her against the wall, I reached between her legs, exploring her folds with my fingers. She bent her neck back, laying her head on the marble wall, moaning.

“Are you too sore?”

“Never.”

Smirking, I withdrew my hand. “We should get ready and go eat.”

“Ugh,” she groaned. “You’re cruel.”

“You have no idea.”

“I hope you still like this place.” I pulled Elizabeth’s chair out for her before I sat across the small table for two.

“The view is gorgeous.” She grinned.

“It is.”

Though I knew she meant the beach with the waves crashing against the tall, long pier that stretched out into the ocean, I was talking about her. I’d requested a table close to the railing overlooking the water. Leaning back in my chair, I propped an elbow on the armrest, stroking my chin.

Her smile grew bigger, and her gaze met mine. “I never paid much attention to how pretty it was here before.”

“Good evening.” A cheerful male server approached the table. His eyes grew wide as I peeled my concentration from her and put it on him. “Mr. Falzone, hello. Sorry, I didn’t know it was you. What beverage may I get you and your guest started with?”

I lifted a hand, turning my attention back to Elizabeth. “What would you like?”

She drew her attention from the menu. “Water is fine, thank you.”

“Excellent choice.” The server joked with a wink, causing Elizabeth to snicker. “And yo—” He stiffened his posture and became serious when he saw I was not amused with him winking at Elizabeth. He cleared his throat. “And you, Mr. Falzone?”

I pointed to the list on the designated menu. “We’ll have a bottle of Perrier-Jouet, Fleur de Champagne, Brut, and I’ll have water as well.”

“Great.” He bowed his head ever so slightly before he waltzed away.

Through dinner, I avoided the stressful topic of Nick Bernardi, though it weighed heavily on my mind. Elizabeth was nervous enough going out in public, thinking everyone could see her injuries through her flawless makeup. I’d texted Dimitri earlier to keep Nick alive until I got my hands on him myself.

Elizabeth’s lips were moving, but my mind got lost in all the chatter, music, and dishes clinking. All I could think about was murdering the man who’d hurt her. The need to protect her had grown, as had the necessity to be near her. I took my last bite of Mahi Mahi, pushed my plate back, and wiped my mouth with the white, polyester napkin.

“Vinny.”

I snapped out of the trance, flickering my gaze to hers.

Giggling, she leaned forward. “Did you even hear a word I said?”
