“I may have had Garrett pull some strings.” He winks and it takes me a minute to realize that’s code for “snuck in via hacker.” April told me he was partially responsible for getting her and Chris together.

He’s the resident matchmaker and doesn’t even know it.

“But… why?”

“Because you were right. We do need to talk.” He takes my other hand and I’m able to block out everything else. All my focus and attention solely on Warren. “I messed up.”

“No—”

“Wait. Just…” He frowns and looks down at me. “Wait. I need to get this out.”

“Okay,” I whisper and grasp his fingers. “I can’t believe you’re in a tux,” I whisper quickly.

Warren chuckles, the little crinkle at his eyes warming my heart.

God. I missed him so much.

“Only for you would I ever wear a tux.” He clears his throat. “I messed up. Forcing you to confront your mother wasn’t my job. More than that, I should have been there for you through all of that instead of pushing you away. I’m sorry.” He releases one hand and slides it over my cheek, holding me there. “I fucked up and I’m sorry.”

“I know. But I messed up too.”

“We both made mistakes, but I don’t want to keep messing up. I want to move forward.”

“Me too.” My eyes well with tears but I hold them back stubbornly. “I—There’s so much I need to tell you. So much has happened.”

He pulls me closer. “I know. I know all about it.”

I frown. “You do?”

“Yes.” He grins. “Our mutual friends spilled.”

“April and Viv?” He nods. “You know about my mom? And Carl and Jasper? And… my dad?”

His face softens in a way that tells me he knows what I’ve been through. “Yeah, they told me about that too.”

“Oh.” I lick my lips and look around. Suddenly, being here is the last place I wanna be. “You wanna get out of here?”

Silently, Warren nods his head and, quickly lacing his hand with mine, drags me out the way he came in like a man on fire.

Molly gives me a smile and a thumbs-up and I throw her a hasty wave. I’ll have to just owe her a drink.

Right now, all I can think about is the man who holds my heart, finally taking me home.

Chapter Fifty-Nine

“You're my missing piece

Oh darling I've stopped

Praying for someone

Since you came along so

Amen”
