“Stop! Stop! Stop!”

“I’m stopping!”

Finally, we come to a stop and Carl’s car takes a right turn. I take a deep breath and Viviana follows the car.

We head into a neighborhood I’ve never been in before; townhomes line the streets.

“Hm…” Viviana starts. “Nice place.” I look at her with an incredulous look. It’s like the last five minutes never happened to her.

“Really nice,” Molly concurs.

I keep my eyes on the car in front of me and watch as they roll into a driveway, right into a garage.

“Do you think this is his bachelor pad?” Quinn asks me from the middle seat. “Or is this him and his wife’s house?”

“No, I’ve been there once for a party. They live on the other side of town in a McMansion. This is definitely something different.”

Silence falls over the car and I feel sick to my stomach.

This man, this despicable man has been blackmailing my mother for years, and yet, has been treating his wife like garbage while he does it.

“What are you—”

A knock on my window interrupts Molly’s question and we scream as one, I look to the window to see a black figure standing there, the low light of the street not allowing me to see who it is.

They gesture for me to roll down my window and I shake my head. “No thanks!”

“Jane Leads,” the voice says and he takes his hood off.

I breathe a small breath of relief at the face of Liam Stokes. I roll down the window.

“What are you doing? He could be a murderer! Thisis Good Girls!” April shouts.

“I’m not a murderer.” Liam leans on the window and looks at the car full of women. “Slumber party?” he asks sarcastically then his brows furrow as he looks me and the girls over. “Why are you all dressed as grandmas?”

“Bachelorette party,” Viviana says quickly.

Liam quirks a brow. “A bachelorette party that’s happening right outside my target’s townhome?”

“No…” I grimace and look back to the townhome. “Just… checking in.”

“Ms. Leads, you paid me to do a job. Not to make sure you…” He counts us. “Five, don’t get into trouble.”

“But—”

“I’ve got this. You’ll have everything you need soon.”

“Mr. Stokes,” I start and he waits. “I need this to be done with.”

“I’m here, aren’t I?”

Not exactly an answer. “How soon will I have what I need?”

“Soon. Now, get home before he spots you. If he does, we may not get what you need.” He taps his knuckles on the door and steps away, fading into the night like a ghost.

“He was hot. Who was that?” Viv asks, Molly murmuring her agreement.

“My PI.”
