Page 104 of Making the Cut

I was thrilled and anxious and excited and… every emotion you could think of, I’d experienced in the last few days.

My mother also insisted that I shouldn’t see Archer the night before, so I hadn’t seen him in a few hours and I was eager to get down the aisle.

I pause, soaking in the fall air and letting myself cycle through all we’d been through this year. I finally figured out that the love of my life was right in front of me, and I had started my own company—which still needed a ton of work—Archer became a foreman and was working like crazy, even over the last couple of days.

And he declared he was moving in, which made sense and made my heart incredibly happy.

For the first time in my life… I was just content. Happy. I felt loved and cherished and whole.

It was the best feeling in the world.

“I cannot wait to marry you.” I smile as the words surround me and turn. I wasn’t in my dress yet, but had my hair and makeup done. When I see Archer in gym shorts and a tee shirt, I smile.

“You’re not supposed to see me.”

He waves a hand. “Eh. Not even superstitions could keep me from you.”

Yup. There’s that swooning feeling.

I could get used to it.

“Are you ready to be tied to me forever?” I ask, giving him a saucy grin.

He stares at me, wonder in his eyes, and I melt at the look. “Absolutely.”

“Really?” I step closer and his hands come around my waist. “Even though I’m a handful.”

His hands reach down and he grabs my backside. He moans softly. “These handfuls are my favorite.”

I throw my head back and laugh, and when I look at him again, he’s smiling and staring down at me.

“I love you, Viv.”

“I love you, too.”

Later, when I finally got to say “I do” and kiss the man who was now my husband, I got this flash in my mind. One filled with laughter and love sprinkled in with the laughter of little voices, and I finally felt like I’d found my place in this world.

And it was right in front of me the entire time.

ENZO

The wedding was beautiful, but if I was being honest, I was a little checked out.

I was thrilled for my best friend and my little sister. Anyone who has known Archer knew that he was gone for my sister since he was about fifteen years old. I was happy that he finally got off his ass.

I may have even shed a tear or two as I watched them become man and wife. It was a beautiful thing.

However, I was stuck looking at my phone often, waiting for any indication that I was getting through to her.

When my phone remained silent, I knew it was no accident.

I knew something had happened.

Now, I had to wait until the wedding was over until I could figure out what had gone down.

I hoped I wouldn’t be too late.
