Iwatchedfromtheside of the stage with Thomas’ arm around my shoulder and Addi holding my hand. I wondered if they were trying to keep me safe or reveling in the magic atmosphere the Cosmic Gods were creating. I squeezed Addi’s hand, smiling at her. To those who didn’t know her, she looked like the confident, self-assured manager of a world famous band. To those who did, she looked unsure and afraid.

“You okay?” I mouthed at her.

She shook her head. “I’m scared,” she yelled into my ear.

“Thomas will sort this,” I reassured her, hoping she could hear me over the music.

“I’m so glad you’re here with us, Em. Don’t leave us again.”

I gave her my little finger. “Pinky promise,” I mouthed.

She linked her finger with mine. “Pinky promise I won’t quit, then,” she yelled.

We stood and watched their set as the band played some of their biggest hits mixed in with three of Frankie’s songs. I hadn’t listened to any of the new stuff, other than the one from the BRITS, but I loved them all.

Tanner paused to open a bottle of water and downed half of it. I couldn’t take my eyes off his topless chest under the bright lights, his muscles rippling and his tattoos glistening beneath a thin layer of sweat. All his ‘rock star props’ adorned his sculpted body—his leather trousers, heavy boots, bands that wrapped his wrists, his rings, and the eyeliner that made his eyes pop. He pushed his tousled hair back from his face, giving me the perfect view of that square scruff-covered jaw and high cheekbones. Looking every inch the god he was.

“Are you loving the new songs?” he questioned the crowd, his voice low and deep, sex appeal dripping from every inch of him. “Did you know that my little sister wrote them? She’s been hiding that talent for way too long, so show her how much you love them.”

The roar of the crowd was so loud that it felt like the roof might come off.

“We have loved being here tonight. We were just four kids playing in a garage once upon a time and now we’re here with you. It’s pretty magical, so thank you for having us. Now, this last song is another new one. I met a girl once who I tried to impress by telling her I wrote songs for people, but she told me if I wrote one for her, then she would murder me. Well, I listened, angel, I didn’t write this for you. Frankie did. I just want you to know the feeling behind it is all mine. She is going to kill me for this, but I’m in love, guys. I’ve met my angel, who saw me at my worst and helped me find the best version of myself. This one’s for you, Emmy, from all of us.”

Tears pricked my eyes as my heart raced.A song for me? I will kill him, but I couldn’t hide the smile from my face. As the cords played out into the darkness and the silence fell over the crowd, I knew this was going to wreck me.

And I wasn’t wrong.

Youwas possibly the most beautiful thing I’d ever heard. Each one of them sang a solo. The beat, the cords, and the drums grew as the song built until Tanner belted out the last verse before they all joined together for the final chorus. My heart felt like it might burst. My body swelled with love for him. For all of them. They gave me back my confidence, loved me even when I hated myself, and showed me how to be a part of a family. I couldn’t hold myself back. He pulled the guitar strap from his body and placed it on the stand next to him and I ran at him, forgetting where we were… where he was. Launching myself at him, I wrapped myself around him, smothering him in kisses.

“That song, Tan. It was everything. I love you. I want to marry you. Spend my life with you. I want forever with you.”

Tanner laughed and pointed out the crowd. “I’m still mic’d up, angel. They heard everything. You all heard her propose, right?”

The crowd screamed and cheered as he stood me down in front of him.

“I mean, I was planning on asking her soon anyway. In fact…” He pulled the angel ring off his finger and got down on one knee, my heart thumping in my chest at the sight. “Marry me, Emmy? Let me spend my life showing you how much I love you.”

“Yes,” I whispered, and the smile on his face grew even wider.

“We need you to say it a bit louder, angel. If you say yes in front of the world, then you can’t change your mind.”

“Yes, rock star. I would love to marry you.”

He stood and slipped the ring on my finger, pressing a soft kiss to my lips. Out of nowhere, I felt arms around me. Mav, Gray, Frankie, and then Addi. Celebrating in front of the world.Yeap, I didn’t think this through.

Elated, we walked off stage, but the mood soon shifted when we saw Thomas glaring at us. “What the hell was that? I mean, it was romantic, and congratulations, but what a way to piss off stalkers and haters. Are you trying to make my job harder?”

“Sorry, that was on me. I shouldn’t have run on stage. I just—” I couldn’t explain what happened.

“See the magic of someone writing a song for you, Em?” Tanner asked smugly, rubbing his sweaty body up against my exposed back.

“Shush, Tan, you’re making it worse.” I slapped his arm playfully, looking sheepishly at Thomas, who just smiled and shook his head at me.

Spinning me in his arms, Tanner stared down at me. “But you’re going to marry me, angel. Really?”

“Really, rock star. But you’re going to have to adopt Shelly and promise to love him forever. They live like a hundred years.”
