“Is this okay, angel? Tell me if it’s too much and I’ll put you down.”

Her shocked face said it all.

“Emmy, nod if it’s okay. Otherwise, I’m putting you down.”

She nodded, her arms relaxing on my shoulders as her breathing slowed. I pulled her tighter to my body, hoping my aching cock behaved itself.

“Hey, man, we were having fun,” Mav complained.

I growled.Where the fuck did that come from?Mav and Gray looked at me and laughed so loudly, I wanted to kick their asses, except that would mean putting Emmy down, and I didn’t want that at all.

“Someone’s a grumpy bear, aren’t they, big brother?” Mav laughed out. “Right, I have a hot date. See you assholes in the morning. Little sister, that was fun. Emmy, thank you for our adventure. Let’s try to make Tanner growl as much as possible. It might be my new favorite game.” She laughed, leaning away from me to hug him briefly.

“See you tomorrow, Romeo. You owe me an interview, so don’t be too tired.”

Before Mav could leave, Matt appeared and whispered in my ear. “We’ve got company. There are cars waiting for us over there. Mav, we will drop you wherever you need to go. Move. Now!” Emmy buried her face into my neck and I pulled down my cap, as did my brothers. I carried Emmy, while Matt and the twins flanked Frankie until we reached the car.

“Shit, did they see us? Addi will fire me if I’m seen with you.”

“You’re not going anywhere, Em. The boys will deal with the press. It’s what we pay them for,” I promised her as I leaned down so she could climb off me and into the safety of the car.

We dropped Mav off at Roxie’s and headed back to the hotel, Matt already there checking we were safe to get out of the car. Emmy climbed out and offered me a small smile. “Thank you for an amazing day. One of my best ever. See you all tomorrow.”

We’d had the whole day off and now the night too. Being off the bus, in the hotel, away from everyone, sent me spiraling. I wanted to drink, to fall into the abyss, to fuck the stress out of my body, but I thought of what Levi would say and I tried to find ways to turn down the volume of my demons without the crutches.

I needed to swim.

I walked through the doors and let the warm air of the pool hit me, instantly calming my frantic mood. Throwing my towel down, I dove straight into the water, desperate for it to work its magic. From under the water, something silver caught my eye. When I realized who it was, I lost my voice.

Emmy lay floating on her back, her long hair fanning out in the water. Her chest rose and fell, her nipples clearly visible against her silver costume. I didn’t want to freak her out, so I ghosted my fingers down her arm. As I suspected, as soon as I touched her, she recoiled, pushing herself backward, splashing her arms and legs frantically, her eyes feral. I held my hands up, showing her I wasn’t here to hurt her.

“Em, don’t panic. It’s just me.”

She stared at me, not saying a word. I watched her stare graze over my body. Her eyes widened even more as she took me in, which made me laugh. “My eyes are up here, angel.”

“Sorry, it’s just, wow, I mean, you’rea lot. I mean. Fuck. I will just stop talking,” she muttered, swallowing hard as her eyes stayed fixed on my chest.

“Did you just sayfuck, dirty girl?” I stepped closer to her, watching the rise and fall of her chest quicken.

“Well, what did you expect? That ink alone is worth me dropping the F-bomb. Never mind your muscles… I mean, no wonder the girls throw their panties at you. Damn, I’m changing the subject before I swear again. What are you doing in here, apart from oozing rock star pheromones?”

“Swimming. You?”

“Floating with intent.”

I chuckled. “Floating with intent?”

“Yeap, I’m not much of a swimmer, but I like to float. Addi told me the band had the pool to ourselves at night so I'd be safe. I can’t remember the last time I did it, hence the random silver swimming costume I bought from the hotel gift shop. And now I should get out and leave you to your swim.”

I wrapped my fingers gently around her wrist. “Why?” I asked softly, circling my thumb over her pulse point, feeling her heart rate quicken. “It’s not the first time you’ve mentioned pheromones. Care to explain?”

She blinked slowly. “You ooze rock star. You must give off a secret Cosmic God smell. It’s why all the girls fall at your feet.”

“Except you. I don’t see you falling at my feet, Em,” I murmured, tentatively, desperately not wanting her to run from me. “Quite the opposite. Maybe you’re immune.”

“Well, my defenses appear to be holding, but I don’t know whether they’ll last or if I can get away with ignoring them forever. I mean, six months is a long time and I’ve seen how strong your pheromones are.”

I took another step closer to her, my hand still lightly holding her wrist. My eyes transfixed, watching her skin reacting to the cold and her hair floating in the water behind her as she stood in front of me. Droplets ran down over her skin, and my mouth twitched to follow them with my tongue.
